“New Years Eve in Providence”

Lovely restored 19th Century home to B+B. Lovely rooms, high bed with great mattress, high pressure shower, nice furnishing, double glazed windows, efficient heating with lovely gas fire which maintains the room temperature. Communal areas with character - reading room with coffee machine and free cakes and daily papers, breakfast room very comfortable with a good breakfast spread and tasty hot option. All staff welcoming, other travelers friendly and talkative and nice to exchange travel experiences. Almost like an English club atmosphere. House was the home of a rich industrialist before 1920 and many of the original features still evident, so fun to see.

“Lovely place to stay in Providence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We had a lovely room - wooden floorboards, a beautiful bed (that needed a step to get up to as it was so high), arm chair, desk etc, and lots of windows.

Breakfast is included and was nice - cold items are available as a buffet and there is a hot "entree" every day that varies (eggs benedict when we were there - my husband had it and it was delicious). Baked goods are also included. Coffee, tea and iced water as well as more baked goods are available throughout the day and there is an honesty box for soft drinks and confectionary available in the fridge in the dining room. There is also a lounge.

There is a car park for the hotel and it is also easy to walk into Providence from the hotel.

This is a staffed B&B, rather than one which is run by the owners, but the staff we encountered were all very helpful.

We booked via hotels.com

“Funeral week comforts for me”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

My sister & I shared a king room with kitchenette on the ground floor for the week to attend a family funeral. Loved it. Very comfortable and quiet. A fab value and great location near the RI Statehouse and Providence Place Mall with shops & restaurants. The staff was very kind and the breakfast was tasty. This B&B is an incredible value. FREE parking and free WiFi. We had no problems getting WiFi on the ground floor and the breakfast room floor. This B&B is not for those with mobility issues as it's an historic home with no elevator and classically narrow and steep stairs. My only critique is the shabby bed pillows. CDH should consider investing in Latex Foam Pillows found at Bed, Bath & Beyond in king size for a king sized bed. They have a 10 yr. warranty so they'll pay for themselves.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room and take it if one is available and it accomodates your needs. You won...

“Very nice, clean, pleasant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We arrived at 10 pm in the pouring rain, and someone was there to help us settle in. They were very kind and accommodating for the 2-night stay. Breakfast was fantastic; wifi was iffy, but they did have a public computer downstairs, which i was able to use both mornings without problem. Not really in walking distance to center of town, but still quite nicely located. Good value for money.

“First Choice New England Bed and Breakfasts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We could not have asked for a better place to stay than the Christopher Dodge House. It is a quaint old home made into a bed and breakfast. It was as if we had stepped into the past. This is everything you could ask for in a New England Bed and Breakfast ! We were greeted by a warm and friendly staff, the room was New England style-beautiful old wood floors, and a warm fire was greeting us. It was just lovely. All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. We took a short tour and saw a sitting room with a computer, snacks-wonderful home-baked goods-just a cozy place to relax. We also saw the breakfast area where we were told we would be served a warm breakfast which changed each day and a choice of pastries, coffee, etc. We were to learn that this breakfast would be the highlight of our day ! We had a fantastic bacon and sausage and vegetable streusel as well as pastries, juice, and wonderful coffee. I heard that the blueberry French toast was outstanding as well . Home baked goodies were tucked everywhere so that you would never be lacking a snack. All made by Alynne, a trained pasty chef. You could almost always get coffee, tea, or fresh homemade cookies. We wished that our stay could have been longer. For sure we will be back and bring our friends along with us. The Christopher Dodge Inn will be my first choice in New England Bed and breakfasts from now on. We are "Southerners" so we are strict judges of hospitality, authentic surroundings, and fine baking-this place deserves an A + in all three categories !
