“Nice people, decripit room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I was going to send my comments directly to Marriott, but could find no way to do that on their website, so here we go...

First, let me say that all the staff I encountered at this hotel were very nice. My room was inhabitable, but far below usual Marriott standards. Old furnishings ('80's vintage?), stains in multiple places, a door with a jiggley latch and a gouge on the front (as if someone had tried to kick it in), an extraordinarily loud heater, hair in the bathtub and on one of the (supposedly clean) towels, and a tissue box with only 6 tissues in it (and no refill). That said, I slept well. Maybe the heater drowned out noisy neighbors!

Not terrible, but "motel quality", which is not what I expect when paying Marriott prices.

Dear JohnPW,
Thank you for commenting on our associates and the positive impression they made on you during your stay. We also appreciate your feedback about your hotel room. It is unacceptable when our guests feel that the quality of their room does not live up to (if not exceed) Marriott standards. I would like to discuss your experience with you when you have a moment. You can contact me directly at jdahler@marriottprovidence.com or call at 401-553-0409
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience with our Trip Advisor readers.

“A bit used up, but nice service”

This is older property, locate right of I95 on the northern end of downtown Providence. You can park for free on the property, but they promptly let you know at the desk they have a lot of break in's in the parking lot! I would not want my daughter staying here.

The best quality of the hotel is they have an excellent fitness center and decent sized pool. This is an older property and its hard to hide...slopping hallways. My biggest issue is the HVAC units are in the rooms, and mine woke me straight up when it kicked on at night.

Dear MacAtlantaGa,
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are the only hotel in Providence with free parking it is important to note. Our fitness center, Club Pace, is very well equipped. We will be introducting some new training services very soon so stay tuned. Our pool is the only connected indoor/outdoor pool in Providence. Just wait until May when the outdoor pool opens - it's amazing!
To address a very serious note: We do inform our guests about the possibility of car break ins throughout the city of Providence. Many other cities in the US are also experiencing an increase in breakins for GPS devices. We don't mean to worry any of our guests (or any Trip Advisor readers) but it is always better to be safe than sorry. We simply want to notify our guests about this potential issue as a preventative measure.

“Great pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My son and I checked in the night before the AFC playoff game, and the Baltimore Ravens were staying there. I was bracing myself for a lot of late night noise, but didn't hear a thing. The room was just fine and clean, and there was a neat indoor-outdoor pool. It was too cold for the outdoor one, but the indoor pool was lovely, and very warm. We had breakfast at the buffet, which was pretty standard.

“Good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My wife and arrived at the hotel and there was a bellhop waiting, check in was easy and painless, when we got to our room it was as expected clean and comfortable. We found the restauraunt and bar to be ok but nothing spectacular. the room was a bit noisy as there was a dance and cheering compitition and we had young girls on both sides of us. The best part of our stay was the concierge Jen Dahler, we asked about dinner and a bakery in Federal Hill and she had numerous suggestions and in the end even made our reservation for us. The dinner was great and the pastry was a big hit at our freinds home the next day. We have stayed at the Westin, and the Marriot by the Providence Place Mall but we will return to this Marriot

“Just okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Good location. Typical Marriott room. Clean. Double beds, NOT queens which is annoying when you are paying this much. Room was not ready when we checked in 3pm. We asked the front desk to make a reservation for a late dinner (9pm) at their seafood restaurant, Blue Fin. We arrived later, got into our room, and went down for dinner and was told there would be a substantial wait even though the restaurant was not even half full. When I inquired about my reservation, I was told I didn't have one, however they would see what they could do. Went to the bar where I found the bartenders to be slow and indifferent. Waited 15 minutes for a drink even though there were two bartenders and not a big crowd. Finally got into the restaurant which smelled like rotten fish (ok, its a fish joint, but the smell was overpowering). Wait staff was slow and the food edible but nothing special. And yes, this property seems to be a haven for hosting large groups of youth teams. We left at 7am and there were kids in the pool, elevators full of dancers, and a lobby full of cheerleaders. Not sure how youth groups pay the hefty price of this hotel, but perhaps the group discount is a LOT better than the regular rate.

Dear Tallgirl1,
We appreciate that you took the time to share your comments about your stay. This past weekend was very busy in Providence with the Athletic Championships. This is one of the largest sporting events in Providence. The young people who participated worked very hard to be there and we were excited to have some of the teams stay with us. We do understand that this can add an additional energy to the hotel that one may not anticipate. From your post, it sounds like that did not cause you any issues.
I do want to address your experience in our restaurant. I have forwarded your posting to our Restaurant management team so that it can be discussed and reviewed as a training tool. It is important to us that when a guest enters our hotel (or in this case, restaurant) that they feel welcomed and excited to be there. I apologize that this is not what you experienced.
If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me directly. My email is jdahler@marriottprovidence.com
We hope you will visit us again soon.
