“Typical KOA Kampground”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I enjoyed staying at the Estes Park KOA. It's your pretty typical campground. The sites were a little close together, but I liked that they had a covered area for the picnic table, which gave some shade. You are close to the highway, which didn't bother me, and also to the Estes Park Dam, which you will hear at night. But the restrooms were clean and the staff was friendly. The price wasn't bad for the area, unless you want to stay in the park.

“Not as avertised!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We stayed in a Kabin here for 3 nights. Upon entering the Kabin we noticed it was not very clean(there was sticky, syrupy type substance on the table/shelf) and there was an unpleasant odor. We were in K15 which is at the top of a hill and possibly the furthest cabin from the bathroom/shower facilities. Our front door faced the horse riding facility which stunk very badly on a couple of nights. What was most disappointing was the internet...or lack therof! We booked here specifically because it offered wireless internet. Not sure if it was because of our Kabins location or just poor service but the conectivity is spotty at best but mainly non-existent. When we asked for a small discount of $5 to $10 per night because of the issue we were told "no" because it is offered free. At over $69 per night...I would not consider that amenity "free". To be fair, the bathroom facilities were clean and well maintained and they did attempt to fix the internet issue by re-setting the server etc.(but were never able to). Do not stay here is you want internet service and do not stay in K15 unless you enjoy the smell of horse manure!

This camper was very accurate in her review. As owners we strive to provide the very best camping experience possible. In our efforts to reach a level of perfection we generally reach a level of excellence that earns us customer satisfaction awards year after year. In that pursuit, cleanliness is one of our cornerstone objectives.

In this case we had apparently missed some small areas in cleaning their Kamper Kabin #15. We have 20 Kamper Kabins and 7 Deluxe Kamper Kottages. We work hard to keep all of them very clean. We apologize for this small oversight on Kabin 15 and it will definitely be thoroughly cleaned for our next campers.

Our Internet WiFi connection is continually a challenge with our campers coming in with game boys, xboxes, smart phones, iPads, computers and others. Then at that we are just in the middle of the camper and our up-line Internet Service Provider. In this case we had no idea there was a service problem until they told us. We immediately got with our ISP and diagnosed that our up line ISP. Baja Broadband, needed to reboot their routers. In addition, as a result of this effort, we determined there was also a growing problem.. our trees. In the past years the signal was getting all around the campground, but seems that our trees are now inhibiting the signal more than ever before. This incident has pushed enhancing our signal around the campground up on our To Do list. Internet is a critical want and need for our campers these days and we will work at getting this fixed as soon as possible.

Horse smells.. Well this campground was built 45 years ago by the horse stable owner next door in one of his spare grazing pastures. Go figure that we are next to a horse stable. The stables do smell some here and again but for the most part is virtually almost never coming over as far as Kabin 15. Apparently it did this time. Campers staying on camping sites toward the west end of our campground may experience smells and there is absolutely nothing we can do about.

We welcome all camper reviews and work hard to correct any problems that have been encountered.

“Friendly staff and great scenery!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We stayed here on a recent camping trip to Estes Park. My husband and I love to tent camp - no cheating with an RV for us - and we had stayed at a KOA up in South Dakota a few years ago and enjoyed it so we wanted to try it again. The campground is on the east end of town and is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the service facilities (bathrooms, office, laundry area, etc) were clean and orderly. Unfortunately it rained all night the first evening we were there and our tent got drenched and flooded. So we ended up switching to one of the little Kamping Kabins, which is just a basic cabin with a full bed along with a bunk bed, which would be perfect for a family. What I liked about the tent site was the lean-to shelter they had over the picnic table and the little prep table next to the fire pit as well as a flourescent light. My only complaint about the tent site was that it was located right at the front of the campground and less than 30 feet from the main highway, so we had the noise of passing cars all evening and night. If you want a quieter tent spot, you would have to settle for one located further back from the road but without a water pump and electrical hookup. Still the staff was very friendly and understanding when we wanted to move to a cabin. I would definitely recommend this KOA if you plan to camp in Estes Park as the rates are reasonable AND there's a free tourist shuttle that stops by out front every half hour from 10 am to 7 pm. The shuttle can take you straight to the main drag of Estes Park, which has numerous souvenire shops and places to eat. It can also take you to the main visitors' center, where you can catch a ride into nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. AWESOME!

Room Tip: For a quieter tent site, reserve a non-electric and water hookup located further back from the road

“I loved the deluxe cabin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

We stayed in the Delux Kamper Kabin for 2 nights while we were in that area during our road trip. The Kabin was very clean, and efficient. (see pictures)
The bedroom even has AC!
I would say though if you are driving a bigger rig, they really jam those in there and there isnt much in the way of privacy. While we were there we watched a KOA employee help a guy with a trailer basically back into another trailer. No damage and the owners weren't mad.

The location is perfect, right outside on the edge of Estes and right next door to Sombrero horseback riding. (you should do the breakfast ride, it was fantastic)

We checked in without problems and checked out without problems. I wish we had more time.

For what it is worth, if you are staying in a delux Kabin, the higher numbered Kabins have better views of the mountains, we were in Kabin 6 and so right behind a tree. Also the tenting area was really nice and seemed to have the best view.

Room Tip: Higher number DELUXE Kabin

“Rustic and fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We were on a budget for our time in Estes Park and this KOA was great! The folks working there were so helpful and friendly. The Kamp wasn't busy when we arrived so they gave us a choice of two Kabins and let us decide.
I was traveling with a friend and we stayed in a one-room Kamping Kabin. It was the perfect size for two traveling girls. The Kabin was for solid, cozy and clean. The wall heater kept us plenty warm during the night. The Kabin had a small porch with a swing and bench and we also had our own picnic table and firepit.
No bathroom in our Kabin but the facilities attached to the office were convenient and kept very clean. One side hosted a more dorm-style bathroom with several lavatories and several individual shower stalls with dressing areas. The other side of the office had three individual bathrooms each containing a shower. We used both facilities without any problems.
This KOA is in a great location if you want to be close to town but not IN town. Its located right off one of the main highways and directly across from Lake Estes. It was convenient to all the things around Estes that you might want to see or do. They have different Kabin sizes and also lots of RV parking and tent sites. We liked that they had onsite recycle bins right next to the dumpster so we could easily do our part for the environment. There is also a small store at the office with a gift shop.
Would definitely return!!
