“A nice motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This motel is a good place to stay when exploring Rocky Mountain National Park. The staff is great. The place is quite clean. The pool is nice. I wish they had a place to do laundry. Also the rooms are on the smallish size. They really don't have any closet space. If your staying for a week, you have to get creative finding places to put yur suitcases and other stuff. There is no continental breakfast in the morning, but the rooms do have refrigerators and the grocery store is across the street. We actually found getting stuff at the grocery store worked quite well. While at the grocery store, try the ice cream, huge portions.

If we ever go back to Rocky Mountain again we would probably stay at Alpine Ridge.

Room Tip: The balcony room really isn't worth the extra money. You really only get a view of the highway

This guest touched on several of our problem areas which we are trying to resolve. When we brought in the furniture from the Marriott several years ago, the armoires turned out to be larger than we thought, and we had to cut down the hanger space. We may experiment with taking the TV out of the armoire, and put the TV on top of it. Then we would have an additional space for hanging shorter clothes and for storing luggage.

We do not have a continental breakfast because the owner has a full service restaurant on property. Also without major expansion of the office, we simply do not have the space for a breakfast operation. Please realize that our rates are $20 to $30 less than our competitors, and if we raised the rates by $30, we could afford to do a lot of these major projects. But how many guests would we lose because of the increase in rates?

We have completed the replacement of the floors in the Balcony rooms in the back building resulting in better soundproofing and the removal of the squeaky floor problem.

We will keep addressing our problem areas as we work to make it a better experience for our guests.

“great location”

This is the second time we have stayed here. Last year we looked at some of the other options for lodging and decided to stay here again. We were not disappointed. We had a balcony room that does overlook the highway but past that is a great view of the mountains. The elk walk right by in the evenings in fall and you can hear them bugling from the room. I really liked the recliner to watch tv in after a day of hiking. I just read a review that had problems with clothes space. We travel with just a carry on so had plenty of room for clothes. The staff is super friendly, accommodating, and the room was well kept. We liked this location because of the easy entry into the park.

“Great Motel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

We stayed at the Alpine Trail Ridge Inn in late September and this is a great motel in a fantastic location. The room was very clean and the bed was confortable. The motel sits on the main road into the park and it was a convenient drive to town. We did not here any street noise in our room. The staff was very nice and helpful. We will stay in this hotel the next time we visit RMNP. If you are looking for a motel in an off the beaten path natural setting this is probably not the place for you. We were looking for a clean comfortable hotel with some amenities that was close to the park for early morning wildlife watching.

“Great location; Great amenities; Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

The coffee /hot chocolate each morning was really nice. The room was spacious and clean. It was the best value in Estes Park. Easy access to the National Park - nice restaurants nearby. There was a nice looking/clean pool, however we did not have time to use it.

“Nothing special”

I'm surprised at such favorable reviews. We don't generally pick motels, and this reminded me why. On one side is the parking lot, the other side, the main road to the park. To call this a view, you'd have to be willing to overlook the commercial strip out. I wish we had found a more scenic spot. Room was very tight for 2 adults and 2 teenage boys (though we picked the room for 4). We got creative stacking on the desk and the corner closet unit (can't call it an armoire, though it was the spot to hang clothes.) If the TV hadn't been so giant, might have been able to use the dresser. Tiny bathroom (tough to close the door, small) with the sink in the already tight living area. To get air we had to open the sliding door to the balcony, which meant lots of light and noise.

We're sorry this guest had problems with their room at our motel. Unfortunately, we can't meet all the needs of everyone. Yes, we do have a lack of storage when people have a lot of things, which often happens with two adults and two children on a longer trip. I have addressed these problems in earlier responses, about the limitations of the design we inherited when we started managing this property. Although we have done a lot to try to mitigate the problems, there are just some things we have to live with.

It all boils down to what the guest really needs and expects, and do we have what they need. For those traveling with a lot of luggage and looking for a spacious room for 4 people, they may be better to keep looking for another property. As evidenced by so many positive reviews, what we do have meets the needs of many people, and perhaps more of those are couples traveling lighter in the luggage department.

A person can always call the motel directly and ask questions about the rooms, the storage and the size of bathrooms, plus the location. We know we cannot please everyone, so we are happy to help people find a place if our motel does not fit the bill of what they are looking for. Our main goal is to help people have a good stay in Estes Park.

Thanks, Jay Grooters, Operations Manager
