I stayed at the Elkhorn lodge in one of the smaller cabins for nearly five weeks. Throughout my stay, from before my arrival to my departure, I was treated kindly and the sweet family went out of their way to help me and provide anything I needed. They even fed me steak dinners each week! It was so nice to stay in a log cabin, and not a stale-aired, boxy, typical hotel room. A tour of the main lodge, with it's pianos, antique dance hall, grand fire places and little museum, as well as the hay loft and stables and the wooded area with old man mountain, were all incredible. There are hidden caves in the mountain which add even more excitement; but if you dare to find them be careful, for the entrance is so small that you may not be able to get yourself out! My cabin was super-clean and warm, with a proper bathroom and nice privacy. If I did want to socialize, they had a huge campfire burning almost every night and all of the travelers that I met were enjoying themselves immensely. The walk to the middle of town was only five minutes, yet in the cabin I felt I was in the national park. I loved the place and recommended it to my friends and family whenever I know they are going to Colorado.
