“The Elkhorn Lodge had a warm, hospitable staff and a range of beautiful old rooms, cabins and houses to choose from.”

I stayed at the Elkhorn lodge in one of the smaller cabins for nearly five weeks. Throughout my stay, from before my arrival to my departure, I was treated kindly and the sweet family went out of their way to help me and provide anything I needed. They even fed me steak dinners each week! It was so nice to stay in a log cabin, and not a stale-aired, boxy, typical hotel room. A tour of the main lodge, with it's pianos, antique dance hall, grand fire places and little museum, as well as the hay loft and stables and the wooded area with old man mountain, were all incredible. There are hidden caves in the mountain which add even more excitement; but if you dare to find them be careful, for the entrance is so small that you may not be able to get yourself out! My cabin was super-clean and warm, with a proper bathroom and nice privacy. If I did want to socialize, they had a huge campfire burning almost every night and all of the travelers that I met were enjoying themselves immensely. The walk to the middle of town was only five minutes, yet in the cabin I felt I was in the national park. I loved the place and recommended it to my friends and family whenever I know they are going to Colorado.

Room Tip: I loved the cabin.

“Awsome Views and Great people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2010

This hotel is absolutley amazing! So what if it's old, so is Estes Park. The simple fact that this place has a lot of history makes me want to go back over and over. To hear all the ghost stories and the people who have stayed there. This is where the Stanley's stayed while they where building the Stanley Hotel! The oldest occupied hotel in Colorado! Go see for yourself if your not too proud.

“Elkhorn made our wedding a blast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2009

My husband and I got married this past July at the Elkhorn, and most of our friends and family stayed here as well for the weekend. Rich and his family, who managed the Elkhorn, bent over backward to make everything special for us. Yes, there are some rooms that are quite rustic-- and yet over and over our guests praised our choice of venue as being the most relaxed, fun place they could imagine. Stay here if you want to hear ghost stories and other town lore around the glow of campfire in the evenings, walk on the premises and see Elk, (we even saw a bear!), and still be 5 minutes walking to the center of town! The charm is in the history, and the warm people running this lodge.

“Rustic but charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2009

My husband and sis and brother-in-law stumbled onto this place by accident while looking for directions. Intrigued, we went back and took a look at the room in one of the cabins. It was what we were expecting. A rustic place for sure and clean and the price was very reasonable. We stayed and had a really great time. It was a nice, easy walk to downtown. My husband and his sister went for a horse back ride. The evening campfires where all of the visitors could gather were fun. Free beer! The new managers who took over this year were very nice people. The history of the place is quite amazing. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to get back there next year.
