“Unique and Clean but some comforts lacking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

As others have said, this is an authentic vintage hotel that is very clean. The look of the place is wonderful and the prices are appropriate for what you get. Service was just fine and the property is very well maintained. You can hear the ocean from outside your room.

I was pleasantly surprised that despite being next to 101, I heard little road noise with all the windows closed. If I was here during a time other than winter when I might have windows open I would bring ear plugs.

My experience was that the bed was comfortable, but with no mattress cover I felt sticky and sweaty most of the night. The pillows are terrible - wish I'd brought my own. The towels are also substandard - think cotton sandpaper. There was only soap, no shampoo in the bathroom.

Just down the road within walking distance are several good places to eat, with more across the street around the marina.

With some upgrades and TLC this place could be amazing and increase their rates. As it is the rates are very good and in line with what you get. If you are looking for low priced, clean, basic (but lacking in some areas) accommodation, this is a great place.

Room Tip: Second floor not open during winter, but would think they might be a bit quieter - and they have big...

“Quirky, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.”

This is a true vintage hotel not one that is just made up to look old. In spite of it's age it was very well maintained and clean. The fact that it looks like something right out of the 60's is pretty neat.
The beds were decent - not high end hotel beds but still comfortable and in good shape. The bathroom was very clean - cleaner than many much more expensive hotels we have been to in the past. The rest of the furniture was older but in good shape - not shabby or dirty. This is not a luxury hotel but for the price it is a good value and very comfortable.
They also have excellent, fast internet connectivity. We were uploading large photo files and it was faster than our wifi at home.
The only two minor complaints I had were that there wasn't a coffee pot in the room, and that it was a bit noisy. We were close to the road so we had a little road noise and then the people on the other side of us took a while to quiet down. Another time I would ask for a room closer to the office which would be further from the street and less likely to have noisy neighbors.
We will definitely stay here again on our next trip through Crescent City.

Room Tip: A room away from road would be the best choice.

“I like the place!”

If you are looking for a modern, IKEA-like experience.. this is not the place! If you want a clean, well maintained, pleasant and reasonably priced hotel in Crescent City.. then you found it! (In fact, I don't think there are any "IKEA-like" experiences in CC!)

It took me back to my childhood and all of those vacations I made with my parents. Now, I am the one who books into places like this and LOVES every minute of it!

The staff was really wonderful, the room was clean (cleaner than some of the more upscale properties I have stayed at) and the location is excellent...all at the most reasonable price in Crescent City!

I would be hard pressed to find better in this area! We will be back!

“cozy comfort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

as previously stated, this is a 50 establishment that is truly clean, cozy, and comfortable. the decor with the redwood is a work of art. however, would have preferred old pictures and memorabilia to really make is special. go to the website and look as the pictures, drive by and see the delicate work, and then find a spot off the highway. 101 and the electric heaters make it a tad noisy. for a one night stay, it is a good spot. a destination it is not. host is pleasurable and hospitable; cleanliness is above average.

Room Tip: great ocean sunsets from the beach

“Beautiful, one of a kind, inexpensive, 60's motor-hotel built from 1 redwood tree.”

We checked out several other motels and setled on the curly redwood in spite of its lack of amenities. All 4 of us were enchanted vy its 1950's feel and decor including all the wood trim and were really happy with the cleanliness and family-like staff.
