“Not aging gracefully”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We usually like Hampton's but this one was not well maintained and the staff seemed to lack training. For example, when I turned in jewelry found in the room to the front desk clerk she didn't make me feel very confident that it may find its way back to the previous guest. Room key problems, non-smoking room that smelled of smoke...will skip this location in the future.

Room Tip: Remember to be clear about non-smoking room. If you'd like to be near the outdoor pool it's...

“Don't Stay Unless You Have No Other Choice...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

I got booked at this hotel through my business travel agent, and I forgot to check TripAdvisor before I left like I normally do. The hotel is in a relatively decent location, right off the interstate, so there's quick access to other parts of town. But it's also in a rather industrial area, with lots of tractor-trailers and construction vehicles coming and going. There are no places to eat that are pretty close; there's a Denny's at the La Quinta down the road. There is a gas station, Subway, and McDonald's about a mile away, but you can't/shouldn't walk to them.

The hotel is quite old; a drive-up-to-your-door-style motel, which always makes me leery as a female traveling alone. From what I've read, the style is not characteristic of Hampton Inns at all. The room size is reasonable and internet service was free and worked well, but my heater couldn't keep the room decently warm. I ended up sleeping in sweats and hiking socks, along with the provided blanket my two nights. The heat always seemed to work fine for an hour or so, but it kept blowing cool air as if it needed to rest.

There was the previous traveler's hair on one of my towels, an electrical outlet in the room didn't work, and stains on my shower curtains. The place was adequately kept, but they could have done a better job with cleaning. My door keys stopped working halfway through my stay, and after going back and forth to the office to get them rekeyed/reset, maintenance was sent to my room. He arrived in a timely manner. It was found that the key reader was bad, so I had to sit in my room with my door gaped open for 10 minutes while he fixed it. No real surprise there, after everything else I'd already experienced.

The pros of this hotel are that the staff is WONDERFUL; they are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and are well-prepared to help their guests. They keep pre-printed directions of local attractions and restaurants at the front desk if you need help deciding where to eat lunch/dinner. They provide a decent breakfast for free in the hotel, egg/cheese omelets, cereals, fresh fruit, waffles, toast, etc. If I could transplant the staff to a nicer/less run-down hotel, I would have given a better overall rating. But yes, their staff saved the hotel from a one-star rating.

Overall, stay somewhere else unless you have no other choice, and if you don't have any other choice, make your stay for no more than a day or so.

Room Tip: Stay on any side of the building not facing Ellison Ave. (the main road)

“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011 via mobile

We were pleased not to have to go out for dinner after a long days drive. Each night (M-Th) a different restaurant brings in dinner. We had chicken breast, rice and salad.
The minus is that the hotel is older and all the rooms open outside. We really didn't mind as we could park right outside our first floor room, which was clean. No microwave or refrigerator, but we didn't ask for them either.
My husband was happy to have REAL DOUGHNUTS for breakfast, instead of the usual Hampton pastry. Jay at the desk was very pleasant and efficient.

“Great even by Hampton Inn standards”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Price was fantastic, $66 a night. They took my pet and didn't even mention a fee. I get the feeling this might have been a different chain's property at some point, because it's laid out more like a motel than like a typical Hampton Inn; room doors face the parking lot, you can drive right up to your room, etc.

Staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the manager's afternoon get-together was delicious. As were the freshly baked cookies. Wi-fi in the back of the building is a little spotty - the signal from the nearby La Quinta was stronger - but big deal. Also, the hotel is right off the interstate exit/frontage road. Easy ingress/egress.

“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

As is typical for Hilton hotels, this property is well-maintained, considering the age of the building. It obviously was a different hotel at some point, as it is structured more like a motel with outdoor entries into rooms. However, the rooms are typically Hampton Inn with all the amenities - wonderfully comfortable beds, nice linens/towels, newer bathrooms, nice flat screen TV, comfy upholstered recliner and desk with free wi-fi. The room is spacious and clean. The breakfast is as good as you're going to get for free anywhere with eggs that vary each day from cheese or veggie/cheese omelets to scrambled with sausage or bacon. Fresh diced fruit (not canned) is offered every morning as well as the customary waffles, pastries, etc. Coffee was excellent and ongoing 24/7. The pool was still opened and being used in late Sept. Workout room was well equipped. The staff is extremely friendly and never forgets to ask if everything is going well. For the price it is as good as you're going to get and if it isn't, Hampton has a money-back guarantee - you must be 100% satisfied or they will make it right. How can you complain? I will stay there again next year.
