We spent almost a week here over Christmas, and were quite pleased overall. Although we were initially quoted a shockingly high rate, I was able to book online for about $70/night. No, this is not a brand new building. I would guess it's from the '70s or early '80s. The rooms were clean (recently painted, new-ish carpet), and the furnishings were in good shape. The decor is sort of a dated fakey southwesty style, but this didn't bother us. Best Western is not a luxury brand, which people seem to be expecting. If you want something that looks like a photo spread in a Sheraton brochure, you won't find it for $70.
Yes, it is near the interstate, but our room was on the top floor looking out over the pool, and there was very little road noise. I slept okay, but my wife found the matress far too soft. The heater was really noisy when it kicked in, and made it hard to hear the TV unless you turned it way up, at which point it would cut off again, and you'd have to lunge for the remote to drop the volume. The bathroom was large, clean, and functional. The hot water was lukewarm one morning, but plenty hot every other time. There's a pretty good selection of toiletries supplied.
It is something of a hike to Old Town (~10 minutes, and I walk fast), but only one fancy hotel is closer (by about 2 blocks). I doubt the complainers would be happy in one of the roadside places on Central Ave. The shuttle will take you to old town. We were a little disappointed that it was not available 24 hrs, since we had an early flight, but the cab ride to the airport was not terribly expensive.
The restaurant is about average. There are better places close by. The prices/service are pretty good, and we got a 15% discount. The pool is open year round. It was under a tent, and a bit too cold for us, but we did use the hot tub. My one real complaint is that their wi-fi has some idiotic nanny program on it that decided Flickr was an illegal file-sharing site, and other perfectly innocuous sites which hadn't passed some sort of review required you to agree to a dopey disclaimer before it let you access them.
