“Decent with great location to Old Towne!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We had a great 1 night visit to this hotel. It is immediately off the free and decent walking distance to old town. The hotel was clean and quiet but not "fancy or new" we are more practical travelers who just need a place to sleep and shower. Across the street was a cool wine bistro we went for dinner and that was handy and nice! They also have a hotel shuttle to take you to old town square - we didn't use it because we like the exercise.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay with us at the Rio Grande Inn. We wish you could have stayed with us a little bit longer. As you may have noticed, we are currently under going some light renovations. These improvements include new carpeting, bedding and some public space upgrades.

“Very pleased”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Stayed here while on a girls trip to New Mexico and we were very pleased. Not sure what others would expect 4 star hotel for 2 star price.

Staff was friendly, restaurant good (at least for breakfast), shuttles were prompt, picking us up at Railrunner when we arrived, taking us to and from Old Town which is only a few blocks away, and to the airport. Room clean and bathroom large. Felt safe which was a concern. Had computers and printer for guests use.

For the money I'd rate the property very good.

“Decent rooms, good rates”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We spent almost a week here over Christmas, and were quite pleased overall. Although we were initially quoted a shockingly high rate, I was able to book online for about $70/night. No, this is not a brand new building. I would guess it's from the '70s or early '80s. The rooms were clean (recently painted, new-ish carpet), and the furnishings were in good shape. The decor is sort of a dated fakey southwesty style, but this didn't bother us. Best Western is not a luxury brand, which people seem to be expecting. If you want something that looks like a photo spread in a Sheraton brochure, you won't find it for $70.

Yes, it is near the interstate, but our room was on the top floor looking out over the pool, and there was very little road noise. I slept okay, but my wife found the matress far too soft. The heater was really noisy when it kicked in, and made it hard to hear the TV unless you turned it way up, at which point it would cut off again, and you'd have to lunge for the remote to drop the volume. The bathroom was large, clean, and functional. The hot water was lukewarm one morning, but plenty hot every other time. There's a pretty good selection of toiletries supplied.

It is something of a hike to Old Town (~10 minutes, and I walk fast), but only one fancy hotel is closer (by about 2 blocks). I doubt the complainers would be happy in one of the roadside places on Central Ave. The shuttle will take you to old town. We were a little disappointed that it was not available 24 hrs, since we had an early flight, but the cab ride to the airport was not terribly expensive.

The restaurant is about average. There are better places close by. The prices/service are pretty good, and we got a 15% discount. The pool is open year round. It was under a tent, and a bit too cold for us, but we did use the hot tub. My one real complaint is that their wi-fi has some idiotic nanny program on it that decided Flickr was an illegal file-sharing site, and other perfectly innocuous sites which hadn't passed some sort of review required you to agree to a dopey disclaimer before it let you access them.

“Good location for visit to Old Town and close to airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed in ABQ for one night so we would be close to the airport for a morning flight back to NY from a week's stay in Santa Fe. We were glad that we chose the Rio Grande Inn, as it was not far from the sights in Old Town and reasonably close to the airport. Our room was quiet and comfortable and the staff were polite and attentive. We needed to be at the airport early in the morning, so had to get a cab as the hotel's shuttle didn't run at that time. Sigh.

“Not what it seems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Hotel interior is old and tired (and quite tacky). Although it is "near" the old town, it is still a good walk to the old town.

Booked this hotel because it is the only hotel in the old town area with a complimentary airport shuttle, listed on the website as starting from 7am "to and from" the hotel to airport. Upon arrival, was told that airport shuttle will only start 730 am. In the end, I still had to call for an airport shuttle. I would have stayed in other old town hotels closer to the plaza instead of this one.
