“An excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

I was hesitant to stay here after reading some of the reviews. However, I don't know what caused those poor reviews, but my stay there was absolutely fantastic. The place was clean and inviting. The rooms were very nice and clean. The room had two TV's and a separate living room/work area and bedroom. The kitchen facility was adequate, although we didn't use it much. Shower/bathroom was excellent also. Front desk staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. The ladies who took care of the evening meals four nights a week and breakfast everyday were excellent. The food served was also very good. In speaking with the manager, he told me that new TV's and new carpeting was scheduled also. Those things would make the place even better than it already is. Want to know what my major complaint was - no sleep timer on the TV. So if that was my biggest problem, you can see how hard I had to search for something bad to say. I'd stay there again in a second!!

“Excellent facility, friendly staff, very clean and quiet.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2009

I looked over a couple of the comments from 2008 and wondered if they changed management, did a major updating, or some of these people didn't know where they stayed. The motel was very modern, exceptionally well maintained and incredibly clean. We stayed eight nights, and we ate breakfast every morning and supper Mon. through Thur. (the only nights supper was served.) The breakfasts were outstanding and the evening meals were adequate.

We found every staff member to be very friendly and helpful.

It was one of the few motels in the area we could find with an indoor pool, and, believe me, at 5300 feet elevation you want to swim indoors in December. This was one problem area with a door to an equipment room that vented outside. Even with that door to the pool area closed, a cold wind blew in that we eventually blocked with towels at the bottom of the door.

The suite had a full size refrigerator, a two-burner stove, and a dishwasher. Pay washers and dryers were on the second floor.

Internet access in the room was by cable only but they provided a short Cat-5 cable at the desk. They said it was wireless in the lobby but we did not try it.

It was easy to find - east side of I-25 at San Antonio. The entrance is a bit cumbersome (you'll see when you get there) but there was plenty of parking in the rear, west side. The Garmin did not recognize the access road straight out from the motel to get to San Antonio west but you can just drive across the divided street and turn left to get to I-25.

If you get a room on the east side, you will have a nice view of Sandia Mountain (10,700 feet.). The other side offers a view of I-25 and the two motels between. Smaller mountains are visible in the distance.

“Major Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2009

I am a frequent guest with Homewood Suites in many cities. This hotel does not deserve the name. First, the desk person ignored me for over 10 minutes while checking in a guest with some reservation difficulties, never even an "I will be with you soon." When she got to me she was terse and short tempered. My room was inadequate, much smaller than any "suite" I've ever stayed in. Most disappointing was the bed which is often a highlight of a Hilton stay. It was a cheap, hard, thin mattress with scratchy spread. The bed ruffle had an obvious white spill on it. Something I would expect from a Motel 6. The bathroom was superficially clean, but there was mildew in the grout in the shower. I will never stay here again, as I told the desk person when I checked out the next morning.

“Great Hotel, Great Price, Great Accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2009

We needed a place with kitchen accomodations and this hotel had the price we were looking for. The room was perfect for our needs! Our room was comfortable, clean, and had enough room to accomodate the three of us. This hotel not only serves a hot breakfast, but Mon - Thurs they also serve a hot dinner all included in the price. The dinner wasn't bad either! They served lasagna on one night, chicken alfredo on the next, chile dogs the night after. Very good, nothing real fancy, and they even had a small salad bar each night. The staff is extremly accomodating, friendly, and prompt with requests. They have a nice exercise room, small pool, and hot tub. For 80 bucks a night it can't be beat. The hotel is five years old and we would stay there again!

  • Liked — Clean, roomy, friendly staff, breakfast and dinner included
  • Disliked — Only smoking room with two double beds is a handicaped room.

“Adequate at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2008

Booked in early June as our stay was during Balloon Fiesta in October when almost all rooms in ABQ are taken. To call the room a "suite" is quite a stretch. I expect a suite to be a living area/bedroom area. This was just a regular hotel room cut up with a tiny kitchen area/tiny table for your laptop, etc. I guess the sofa was a hide-a-bed, but we did not need it. Sofa, chair, other furniture were somewhat shabby. We could only book a smoking room because of Balloon Fiesta and when we arrived, the room reeked of some deodorizer spray with underlying smoke. After leaving the windows open the room was almost livable, but they need to clean furniture/carpets in smoking rooms. We do not smoke in the room but this was the only one available. Lesson learned for us!

Breakfast was passable, with some sort of microwaved scrambled eggs, fruit, bagels, muffins, juice, sausage, biscuits/gravy, toast, and something New Mexican with tortillas. I liked the flavored creamers available for coffee and took some back to the room to stash in the refrigerator. After three days the breakfast buffet was boring but free. We did not eat at the manager's reception Monday through Thursday.

The pool and hot tub are quite small, along with the exercise room. Management was nice. There is no longer transportation to the bus to Balloon Fiesta.

Although I was charged $159/night for four of our five nights, the back of our door stated "maximum $149 per night." Upon contacting the front desk they agreed to lower the room rate although they explained it was because of Balloon Fiesta.

Probably would not stay at this hotel again, expected a LOT MORE from a Hilton suite hotel.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — small "suite" is really a normal hotel room
