I've been coming to this hotel at least once a year for the past four years. My latest stay was for four nights. The positives about this place are the excellent and diverse full breakfast offered (and included in the room price) which features a made-to-order-omelette stand, and the two free drinks per person during happy hour in the bar. Between those two "freebies" you are saving quite a lot. The main con I would state is that the rooms are starting to need some maintenance and refurbishment. I stayed on the third floor along with a large group and each of us had significant difficulties getting the water temperature right for a shower. Some days there was only cold water. It required minute adjustments to gain an ideal temperature, otherwise it was freeze or be burned. The heater/aircond also seemed to have just one level so I had to decide before retiring whether I wanted to turn it off and allow the room to get cold (and to hear the extraneous noises throughout the hotel) or keep it on and throw off the covers as it got a little too warm (but the "white noise" of the fan drowned out noisy hotel guests.)
Many door handles to the rooms require a special technique as well. You have to pull the handle up rather than down in order to gain access. These are small complaints but ones that have gradually been more common as time goes by which indicates a lack of steady maintenance and overall the place doesn't look quite as good as before.
One other thing which is not unique to this hotel, but was evident again to me ... the peephole in the hotel room door which in theory allows you to check who is outside before opening the door ...this peephole is located at the eye-level of someone at least 5'8" tall and therefore of no use whatsoever to the majority of women and children, the very group who need it most. Why they are not put lower in the door baffles me. After all, a tall person can bend down to see but we who are vertically challenged just have to hope for the best.
I still give MCM Elegante in Albuquerque four stars as the value for money is still very good and I have yet to find another hotel in that price range which offers the location and services found in this hotel.
