We visited for a murder mystery week end.The mystery was poorly written and should be called a book reading. The breakfast and meal that are included with the mystery weekend price were cold and of poor quality. The inn is located in a very bad neighborhood. I guess that is why Ken and Francois lock the doors to the inn and do not give guests a key. It was as if we were in prison not to mention the danger had there been a fire. We were locked in and couldn't get out until the owners unlocked the doors. On Saturday morning my husband showered (slow cold drip of water turned on by using the broken and taped faucet handle) bent over to fit under the shower head and being very careful not to pull on the curtain because the rod holding it up was also poorly repaired using tape. He then went downstairs to go for a cup of coffee for us. He was appalled to find out that we were locked inside the inn. This was very shocking and hard to believe considering that the guest rooms did not have locks. We are early risers and the inn keepers are not therefore we waited from 4:30 am until 8:30 am when they awoke for a cup of coffee. My husband mentioned this to Ken who laughed it off as if it was no big deal. Ken didn't tell my husband that he could prepare coffee in the kitchenette or give him any suggestion as to how to make or get coffee the next day. Later Saturday we found a department store and purchased a Keurig, k cups and everything else that we needed to make coffee the next morning. We also purchased a container of tea and asked that it be kept cold. Francois informed him that he should drink it downstairs in the kitchenette in case of a spill. I was again appalled. I set up and used the Keurig for tea that night and coffee the next morning. One problem solved.,,or so I thought. We had purchased an additional night stay so that we would have time to see some of the historic sites in Petersburg. We went site seeing and upon our return Francois informed us that she had disconnected the Keurig and that we were forbidden to use it. She also said that we should have asked her prior to having it in the room. Since we couldn't come and go as we wanted to we told her that we would be going to dinner and would be returning in one to two hours. We left at six and returned at about 7:15. We waited in our vehicle ( the inn is kept locked and guests are not given keys ) until 8:30 when they returned. We got out of the car, informed Ken and Francois that we would be leaving immediately, we packed, loaded our vehicle, and were driving home by 9:00. The inn is in terrible disrepair both inside and out. There are so many historic sites in Petersburg that we will probably return. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to return to La Villa Romaine. We certainly will not.
