“Much better than expected.”

We booked a room at the La Quinta Inn Corpus Christi South specifically because of the location. We had purchased an item at the Corpus Christi Sears on-line and had to pick it up, and the La Quinta South location was 1 minute away. We read some of the reviews and had concerns, but we love La Quinta and booked it anyway. The room was perfect, the location was perfect, the staff was friendly. We were very happy with everything. We are not sure when we will be going to Corpus again, but we will most likely stay at Laquinta Inn South

“Cheap, Quick Overnight Stay---Pet Friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We usually stay at the Staybridge in Corpus because it's a nice hotel and they allow dogs. Well, this time, we didn't feel like paying the $130 a night plus the pet fee to stay there. We were bringing our dogs with us and wanted a place that they would be welcome without paying an arm and a leg. To keep my review brief, I'm listing the pros and cons here:

Pros:
*Dog Friendly and there was no fee for our dogs
*Inexpensive (the price started at $74 a night for a suite)
*Towels and linens were nice and in good shape
*Two private "suites" available. This includes a huge room area with sofa, chairs, sink and fridge. Choose #300 if you're a non-smoker and want the bigger suite. These suites are have a private entrance that that locks to the outside.
*The staff seemed more than open to anything you needed, they just didn't take much initiative.

Cons:
*The rooms are old and run down
*Smoking is allowed in some rooms, which are right next to non-smoking rooms. So, if you're sensitive to smoke, this may bother you. We never did smell it in our rooms though, just in the hallways.
*Not clean at all. The same food spills were on the stairs from Wednesday when we checked in to Friday when we left, they were never vaccumed. Less-than-clean toilet.
*The smoke detector directly outside our room was beeping when we arrived, we had to ask them to fix it.
*Bathroom fan was hanging losely from the ceiling
*Dirty upholstered furniture in the room, covered in stains
*Dirty, worn carpet. There was a spot next to the bed on the floor that was either candle wax or vomit, not sure which.
*The staff didn't seem to actually be doing much of anything. The suite next to us kept the luggage cart all three days right outside their room and by the third day were using it for their excess trash. We had to mention this to the upon checkout for them to take notice.
*I would skip the breakfast if you value your health. The bagel I got had mold on it. The tea I fixed tasted like something was seriously wrong with it like it had been sitting around for years or something. I pitched it.The boiled eggs were gray inside. Bleh! Spend the $2 to eat at Whataburger down the street.
*The fridge had to be over 20 years old. I've NEVER seen a model that looked like this one. It had no freezer and BARELY kept anything cold. I had to pitch food after the first day because I wasn't sure it was safe to eat any more.
*This location is on the frontage road, directly off of the highway. You will hear highway noise, especially if you are on the front side of the building.

Bottom line: If you're here just for a night or two an on a budget and you have pets, this will save you a few hundred dollars. If you prefer nice surroudings and everything to be newer and in excellent condition and you don't mind paying for it, this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Suites are rooms #300 and #301

“Not My Favorite...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

This is an older La Quinta that has been kept up rather well... but it is an older property that has many drawbacks. We did see a roach. The bath tub is hard to get into and out of, as well as being very slick. The room was large with a recliner. The bed was comfortable. This hotel faces SPID and the road noise was very loud all night. There was no mini-refrigerator even though there was room for one. The breakfast was adequate and nice. All in all, for the price, you can certainly do better.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here, ask for a room on the back because of the freeway noise.

ROACHES, ROACHES, ROACHES, SHOULD SAY IT ALL!
I'm usually pretty easy to please and not to picky. Clean and good service usually makes me happy. Service was fine but can't really say that it was clean. There were roaches dead and alive, it was disgusting! We will never stay here again.

“Too many chances”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

Fool me three times...My wife and daughter stayed here in July when my daughter was enrolling at TAMUCC. They hadn't been there 10 minutes when the toilet overflowed on the first...ahem...uhhhh, liquid flush. No biggee, it happens sometimes. Employees were very nice and changed their room and the only other complaint was about the road noise (front of building is on freeway access road). Fast forward to August when we're back there again moving daughter into dorm and assuming problems have been fixed at LQ. Planned to stay for 2 nights, Fri/Sat. Friday late arrival. 1. empty bag of chips, opened pill "pop-out" container and 2 used tissues in drawer between beds. Maybe someone had a cold and needed Cheetos to help sleep. 2. Next morning, wife goes to take shower and when water is turned on, instead of going down drain in tub, hair and some grey colored stuff comes bubbling out of it!! Ewww. No time for this, too much to do. Go to daughters dorm room to shower but stop by to tell manager this will not work! VERY apologetic and understanding. "Don't worry, just leave everything as is and we'll move you to another room and move all your belongings and will no charge for last night. Very sorry". Well...okay but we don't have time for this (100 things to do at the school). 3. After a long day moving daughter other things, setting up electronics, meeting with advisor, etc...we are looking forward to shower and nice dinner before turning in and leaving the next morning. Arrive at LQ and they tell us everything is moved, we're all set up. Walk into new room and IMMEDIATELY the smell of mold/mildew is overwhelming! Maybe it's just us, been a long day. Let's get showered. Just finished showering when youngest daughter says, "Dad there's something wet over here". YEH, like squishing up between your toes. The AC unit is pouring condensation into the carpet and it is wet from the window unit all the way under the bed nearest the window and almost to the other bed. Better than half the room! UNBELIEVABLE! No wonder where the smell is coming from. And here's the thing...the people just moved us into that room. They HAD to be able to feel that water when they were making up the beds. Or AT LEAST they had to smell that smell. I started to ask them since they also left one of their walkie-talkies on the TV. Needless to say, I got right on the phone and arranged another room at Holiday Inn Portland (please see that review) and told the LQ Corpus Christi South we would no longer need their services and I did not expect to be charged ANYTHING for EITHER night.
The scary thing is I bet they tidied up the room and would try to give that to someone later that night (whole town was booked, that's why we had to use Portland HI).
It just made me wonder if this is an every day affair? They HAVE to be losing money with all the comped rooms and cancellations. And the staff were so friendly and my sense of it is, inside it was like they were saying "I know, it sucks here and I wouldn't stay either. But it is my job and, of course, I can't say that".
