Candlewood Suites Corpus Christi has some good and several less good sides. On the good ones, the hotel is conveniently close to two major highways connecting the city. Another one is the kindness of staff: they did everything to advise and help us during our stay. Further coffee, washing machines and driers are available 24/7 free of charge.
The less good sides are first building internal noise: when traffic on both highways was almost inaudible during the night, building doors were slamming loudly and frequently with windy weather because - I was explained - some external door-locks had been broken but not repaired. Second, in opposite to what is indicated in the "guest service directory", the hotel has no safe available for the valuable items of its customers. Thirdly, the carpet of our room had all sorts of traces by many, many visitors before us. This may explain an evening visit by a little grey mouse as well as of a sizable insect wandering quietly around the kitchen sink. Staff were not especially impressed as such occurrence appeared to be rather frequent. Finally, the faucet in the bathroom was providing warm water almost at a drop-by-drop rate forcing us to brush teeth, wash hands, etc. in the kitchen.
We left the place with no particular remorse.

My Wife and I had planned a nice beach weekned in Corpus. What we got was a reason not to stay at Candlewood Suites ever again. We arrived early check to see if the our room was ready. First reason not to stay here (STAFF) I guess when the class on customer service was held no one showed up not even the owner. The lady at the front desk check to see if our room was clean by yelling down the hall to the clean staff and the cleaning staff yelling back confused at what rooms where cleaned. At 12:30 at night get a call that WOKE UP my wife to tell us that the TV WAS TO LOUD and to stop opening and closing doors. Funny thing was I was downstairs in the SNACK BAR (CRAP BAR) during this time and my wife was asleep. Second reason (DIRTY) Room was always HOT!!! AC never stopped running, Room hald bad mildew smell, Ceiling stained, Bathroom in poor condition RUST!!! Bed sheets hard and itchty. Self Service Snack Bar had half eaten candy bars, open bags of chips and old milk half drank all for at least 2.00 per item. AND last of all Drapes had DRIED FECES on them!! And the fouth and Final reason not to stay here Owner said for all our troubles all he was going to do was give us a 15% discount!!! How SAD I guess the customer comes LAST HERE. GOOD BYE CANDLEWOODS!!!!

We stayed there for the weekend. It was the Beach to Bay Relay that weekend but that’s not why we went but it might be why the hotel was so crowded.
Hotwire has this rated a 2.5 star. I would put it at a 1.5 star.

We did not enjoy our stay there. Here are some reasons why.

-The swimming pool was uninviting, (there was a large group there at the small pavilion each night drinking and smoking) also several people doing the same thing right outside the main hotel lobby.
-The entire upstairs hallway stunk badly. It smelled of rotten sauerkraut.
-We had no control of the air conditioner. It went on and off all night. That would normally not be a big deal except every time it came on it was extremely loud.
-There was nothing around the hotel except concrete and freeways. No landscaping.
-No breakfast or lobby to speak of
Water pressure in the shower was lousy.
Small room for a suite-no couch.


On the positive side:

The staff was all right
The complimentary newspaper is nice.
It has a decent workout room.

Not a clean welcoming hotel. Stay somewhere else.

I would not return. On unpacking my clothing smelled of cigarettes even though I had not been around any smokers. Location is easy highway access but a bit of a run-down neighborhood.
