“Another hampton Inn. clean/comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Another Hampton Inn. You can expect clean/comfortable rooms and a decent continental breakfast.
Stayed in January while in town for work. Enjoy the island atmosphere and local seafood. Would be ok if you are planning on hitting the private beach down the street.

“Charged DOUBLE - Not HAPPY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

The hotel was nice and everything was exactly as it was advertisied. I was just extremely unhappy with being charged double for my stay. In order for me to get a good rate I had to pre-pay for the trip. So we paid two weeks in advance hoping that nothing would prevent us from going. Only to get home from our trip and get charged again for the same amount. We stayed three nights - so do the math on average of what this hotel charges. Its one thing to be commited to the hotel price and pay in advance for your stay - and another to have to be charged again for a stay that we already paid for. Disappointed in the lack of communication - and just having to be with out the money that was automatically taken out of my account. I am hoping that the hotel makes the correction soon - and hope that anyone pre-paying for your stay - BEWARE of the possible extra charge and inconvience it may cause to your bank account.

“Decent place, bad breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2011

After my first time at this hotel in November of 2010, I returned this year in April. We found brand new carpet in the halls and the hot tub was working again with clean water inside. On the downside the bed was still squeaky and this time the breakfast was really bad. Looks like they got a new independent vendor to prepare the breakfast.

“Nightmare at the Hampton Inn MUST READ”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Wow, what a nightmare. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY WENT THROUGH OUR PERSONAL ITEMS IN OUR ROOM WHILE WE WERE NOT THERE!!!
But I'm a little ahead of myself...

If you look at my other reviews, I rarely complain... So bare this in mind.

I took my family on a vacation. We were coming in from a very pleasant stay in Rockport, TX (see my review). Thought we would spend a few nights on Padre Island. We checked in without much of an event (You know the routine with a family... get the cart with all the bags, and unpack them in your room).

I noticed the toilet was leaking as there was a puddle of water on the floor (yuck). I went to the front desk, and notified them of the problem. The front desk person mentioned that it was after 5:00, so there was no one there. She needed to contact the manager to see if he wanted to get it fixed that night or tomorrow.

I told her we were going for dinner (Snoopy's) and would be back later. When I got back, she told me they would need to get it fixed tomorrow. "So, you'll move me, right?"

"Well it only leaks when you flush it, right?" Needless to say, I insisted on a new room. The room they had was a larger room (had a rollout couch). I re-packed everything and went to the new room, and unpacked again. (OK, but I get a bigger room for my troubles).

Next morning we set out for the beach. When we get back (around 5:00pm), I noticed my key was not working. I went to the front desk, and the manager came out. He was able to sell the bigger room at the higher price, SO THEY DECIDED TO GO INTO MY ROOM, GO THROUGH ALL OUR PACKED DRAWERS WITH OUR PERSONALS ITEMS, ALL OUR MEDICACTIONS, AND PACK THEM UP TO PUT THEM IN A SMALLER ROOM! IS THIS AMERICA? DON'T I HAVE RIGHTS??

There were other issues (ran out of food at breakfast, no forks, defective smoke alarm), but they pale in comparison to this outrage.

The manager seemed absolutely apathetic, inferring if it wasn't for me complaining to move, there would have been no issue. Needless to say, I left the next day. I filed a formal complaint with Hilton. And by the way, the 100% guarantee... "If you are not 100% satisified, you shouldn't have to pay"? Guess that does not apply to this hotel. I insisted on not having to pay, and the manager would not give me my money back.

And the worst thing is, I'm a GOLD at Hilton. How do they treat the "non-Gold"? I probably would have been put in a tent in the parking lot. IF YOU VALUE YOUR RIGHTS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL.

“Good stay on the island, but not great by any means...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

This is certainly an acceptable hotel, but it isn't great. The hotel is not brand new, so that will give you an indication of what to expect. Things just aren't as pristene as I would, ideally, like. The breakfast is a good Hampton Inn breakfast, but they didn't have the little jackets you put on your coffee cups to keep you from burning your hands. There was a time that you didn't need one of those in the Hampton cups, but on the new ones you do. They have a really nice fish tank in the lobby which is a really nice touch. I had a room on the third floor (306), which you could catch a little glimpse of the Gulf from in between the dunes in the distance. The bed and the sleeping quality were both excellent, and when I was there there were very few guests so the hotel was very quiet. Disappointingly, the only pool is an indoor pool. I tried to use the spa, but the water was only lukewarm and the level of chlorine was so high my eyes were slightly watering, so nonetheless, I got out quickly. The staff seems very nice and helped me with all of my requests and questions. The internet at times is unacceptably slow, and it is an ethernet cable connection only, no wireless, except in the lobby. This was a frustrating, but only minor, annoyance. A great feature of this hotel is that the windows open, so you can get a nice gulf breeze at night when you are sleeping. The location is not that great for visiting Corpus, because you have to drive into town across the water when you want to do anything, which takes extra time. Overall though, I will stay here again, if the price is right, on my next trip to Corpus. The hotel overall, just doesn't fall short enough for me to say that I can find one that is a better value in the area, and that is really saying a lot, becuase I am pretty picky.
