Wow, what a nightmare. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY WENT THROUGH OUR PERSONAL ITEMS IN OUR ROOM WHILE WE WERE NOT THERE!!!
But I'm a little ahead of myself...
If you look at my other reviews, I rarely complain... So bare this in mind.
I took my family on a vacation. We were coming in from a very pleasant stay in Rockport, TX (see my review). Thought we would spend a few nights on Padre Island. We checked in without much of an event (You know the routine with a family... get the cart with all the bags, and unpack them in your room).
I noticed the toilet was leaking as there was a puddle of water on the floor (yuck). I went to the front desk, and notified them of the problem. The front desk person mentioned that it was after 5:00, so there was no one there. She needed to contact the manager to see if he wanted to get it fixed that night or tomorrow.
I told her we were going for dinner (Snoopy's) and would be back later. When I got back, she told me they would need to get it fixed tomorrow. "So, you'll move me, right?"
"Well it only leaks when you flush it, right?" Needless to say, I insisted on a new room. The room they had was a larger room (had a rollout couch). I re-packed everything and went to the new room, and unpacked again. (OK, but I get a bigger room for my troubles).
Next morning we set out for the beach. When we get back (around 5:00pm), I noticed my key was not working. I went to the front desk, and the manager came out. He was able to sell the bigger room at the higher price, SO THEY DECIDED TO GO INTO MY ROOM, GO THROUGH ALL OUR PACKED DRAWERS WITH OUR PERSONALS ITEMS, ALL OUR MEDICACTIONS, AND PACK THEM UP TO PUT THEM IN A SMALLER ROOM! IS THIS AMERICA? DON'T I HAVE RIGHTS??
There were other issues (ran out of food at breakfast, no forks, defective smoke alarm), but they pale in comparison to this outrage.
The manager seemed absolutely apathetic, inferring if it wasn't for me complaining to move, there would have been no issue. Needless to say, I left the next day. I filed a formal complaint with Hilton. And by the way, the 100% guarantee... "If you are not 100% satisified, you shouldn't have to pay"? Guess that does not apply to this hotel. I insisted on not having to pay, and the manager would not give me my money back.
And the worst thing is, I'm a GOLD at Hilton. How do they treat the "non-Gold"? I probably would have been put in a tent in the parking lot. IF YOU VALUE YOUR RIGHTS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL.
