“Keep driving! DON'T STAY THERE!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2011

The Copper Sands accomodated me 2 nites of my 2 month detail in the area until I could check into the La Siesta Motel. (I would've been better off sleeping in the car.) I will say, the owners really want u to be happy, so they're... overly friendly; as if to compensate for what ur about to experience. After seeing the rm, I immediately went to the local Dollar General to purchase my own bed linen. There was 1 dead cock roach under the chair next to the bed and a LIVE COCK ROACH on the other side. I assume they enter via the huge cracks around the door frame or through the disgustingly dirty window a/c. The carpet hasn't been vacuumed in ages and the dust was just as bad according to my finger swipe accross the bible on the nite stand; I could've written my name in it! The shwr was something right out of a horror movie! Pink w/ blk mold and in SERIOUS NEED of CLR. Better yet, total destruction. There was a fly swatter hanging on the wall next to the front door (gross!) and a toliet plunger behind the toilet! I took pics to txt my friend and to show my mngrs what they paid $170 for. Hopefully they will read this and take the advice to remodel asap. 1 or 2 rms at a time. As for the rest of u, take my word and keep driving or wait til something else is available. I would advise when it comes to any place in Ajo, view it first!

“Classic Roadside Motel!”

We had a great stay at the Copper Sands Motel in Ajo. After being told that the La Siesta was booked we took a chance on the Copper Sands. We found the owners to be friendly and helpful. The room was decent size and while the king size bed took up most of the free space it was comfortable and clean. Watched the evening sunset on the patio. For only 3 options in Ajo, we'd recommend this one to any traveller passing through.

“Very worn out and dingy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

We make many road trips in AZ, NM and CA and have stayed at many old small hotels, but this was by far the worst experience we've ever had. The cabin we stayed in was so old and so in need of major repairs that it was laughable. The beds were uncomfortable and the shower was soooo bad we didn't use it, we'd rather be a little dirty than to brave that old dingy scary shower. The owners seemed clueless as to what was available. They told us there was no Mexican Restuarant in town, which was not true. They didn't know how to run their credit card machine. I know they have been the owners for years, but they seemed like they just started in the business. Don't stay here!
The space heater was old and noisy and there were no smoke detectors. The fire extinguisher was about 20 years old and long since empty. Yuck

“Basic but OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

Basic hotel with friendly owner. We had a cabin which was worn down but OK. The room had a patio and a small kitchen, a very worn down bathroom, and sleeps up to 5. The quality of the bed was not very high.
It was the only sleeping option left in Ajo however, and this seemed to be the best option for visiting the organ pipe cactus NM (in stead of driving two times 40 mi one-way to Gila Bend).

“Friendly & Cozy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2008

We enjoyed our stay in Ajo. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The room was a cozy southwestern style. The king bed was very comfortable. The motel is an older motel, but room was very clean. It had a little fridge, microwave, and coffee pot with GOOD COFFEE (not that cheap stuff you get at most motels). There was complimentary muffins for breakfast. The patio was great at night for BBQ and star gazing. The desert scenery was beautiful, outside of town, surrounded by cactus and desert scape. It was a nice and quiet escape from the city. The organ pipe cactus monument was only about a 30 minute drive from the motel. We'll be back.
