This is an average hotel at best and certainly not the best downtown Salt Lake has to offer. We were booked via Priceline so luckily we paid less but the full price rates are not worth it (sorry Hilton). The hotel is nothing to look at on the outside with just a Neon blue hilton sign with some of the letters missing. The lobby is great and the check-in staff was friendly. Check-in and out at this hotel is lighting fast. We were given a room on the 9th floor that looked out to the west. The view was unobstructed and nice. The room was nothing fancy and had an old and rundown look and feel. The beds and bedding were nice. The TV was a flat 32" with about 15 channels and a nice on-screen guide and movies for purchase. The drapes were heavy and blocked all of the outside light (Nice!). The temperature was controlled by a little vent in the corner of the room that faced the window so that wasn't much help. The bathroom was basic with nice soaps but horrible rough towels and really, really cheap toilet paper. There is no bathroom fan. There was a daily newspaper delivery in the early morning but that was on the only frill or perk. There was a bottle of $3 water in the room. There was a room service menu with the overpriced fare you expect but also a notice that there is a 20% service charge and $2 in-room charge per use. Parking was on the high side ($13/day or $16/day for valet). WiFi is available but there is a charge for that too. There was a $50 charge on my debit card I'm assuming is an up-front "hold" for incidentals and I'm waiting to see if they take that off. Check-out is a breeze, they slip a summary of your charges under your door and if there are no problems you can hand your room keys to the parking attendant on your way out.
If money isn't a factor for you then this is a great in-and-out hotel in a super location. There are no frills, just a reliable good night's rest (provided the temperature in your room is OK). If you (like me) are traveling on a budget then other downtown hotels offer cheaper parking, free WiFi, free continental breakfast, and rooms that have been renovated in the last 15 years. I hope my review helps you out. If the Hilton renovates their rooms in the future I would look forward to staying there again but if I'm paying full price I would pick a less-pricey hotel because they are just as good, if not better.
