“A bit tired, has seen better days”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

The hotel seems to be a little past it's prime. It seems a bit tired and frayed around the edges. The free continental breakfast consisted of everyone standing around the little toaster in the lobby and a basket of bananas and apples. The pool was out of order, this was not mentioned when I phoned the front desk before our arrival. The way it looked it had been out of order for many many months. The staff is very friendly but this place is a bit like an old arthritic dog that served it's purpose in the past but now maybe should be put out of it's own misery. It was also much farther from the convention center than i was led to believe on the phone.

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The hotel fraudlently assesses charges to get more money from you. The bed was hard and carpet filthy. The sink had hair in it and tub was dirty. Never again will we stay here.

Room Tip: Stay Away and pay a little for a clean and honest facility

“Metropolitan Inn of Salt Lake City”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Room was small but very clean. Rachel @ front desk was super-friendly & very helpful in locating a restaurant within walking distance. Elevator was scary and made frightening noises so after using it once I took the stairs. The rate I booked the room for wasn't awful but could have been better I learned after-the-fact since I was in town for surgery. My biggest complaint would be the beds - Tempurpedic. I am seriously hoping the Metropolitan Inn got these beds for free because it was like sleeping on a brick with a bit of memory foam on top - not at all comfortable.

“Stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

Drove 2 1/2 hours to SLC the night before early morning surgery. Was told on phone when I made reservation I'd get 'hospital rate' of $59, but at check-in manager said ,"Conference in town. Full rate of $145." It was late, places were full, we were tired and hungry, so I took the room. Got up before 6am to shower for surgery. The tub backed up and as I began to shampoo my hair RAN OUT OF HOT WATER! After finishing my cold shower I called the night clerk. Both he, and the manager I spoke to on check-out were decidedly uninterested, and both said "Oh, sorry. The hotel is full. Guess that's why you ran out." I sent the 'manager' a copy of this complaint, saying that if I did not have a response in a week, I would send the review on tripadvisor. No response.

The facelift on the property, the mattress, and location were positives. There were no 'Rate your stay' cards in the room, for obvious reasons. The management pointedly does not care
about your experience there.

“NOT SAFE - Door to room did not lock”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011
1
person found this review helpful

After checking in, we went out. I noticed that the door did not automatically lock behind us when we went out. After some jiggling and banging and slamming, it did lock. Same thing when we came back that evening, but it was late and we didn't want to change rooms so we bolted the door and put the safety lock on.

In the morning I mentioned to the desk clerk about the door to our room not locking. He said he would "Have a look at it." When we went out for the day we went through the same jiggle and dance to get the door to lock.

That evening, the desk clerk apologized upside down and backwards that the morning clerk (who was apparently the manager) did not fix or contact us about the lock on our door that still did not lock. It was earlier in the evening and I asked for another room.

She moved us to another room, but that door lock HAD THE SAME PROBLEM and DIDN'T LOCK.

After much more apologizing, the clerk then upgraded us to another room, where the door actually locked. It was a nice room, twice the size of the previous, plus it has a microwave and refrigerator. And a bathtub (the first room had only a shower with dismal water pressure)

The following morning the toilet backed up - Housekeeping was in the hallway so my husband stepped out and asked if there was a plunger. I heard her say "I'm sorry, I don't have one."

Uhhm really? No offer of "Oh I'll get one" or "I'm so sorry, I'll take care of that for you"

My husband went downstairs and the same man (manager from the previous morning that didn't fix our room door or offer to move us to another room), gave him a plunger and sent him on his way to plunge the toilet himself.

When my husband returned the plunger talked to the manager about the lock issue. The manager had said "I looked at it but didn't know how to fix it and our maintenance guy is on vacation."

But the review doesn't end there.

Shortly after the plunger incident and conversation with my husband, the manager came to our room and told us:
You shouldn't have been put in this room and we're going to have to move you, this is a much more expensive room than the one you were in. Unless you want to pay the extra charge.
Us: We will just check out and stay someplace else.
Him: ok

So we went someplace else and will never EVER come back here and will write as many reviews as we can to let other know of our experience.
