“Salt Lake's finest!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We're a well-traveled local couple that frequently spends the weekends at local hotels. This is definitely the top spot for luxurious accommodations in the downtown area. All the staff was friendly and helpful from the valet, the desk, bellman, maid, room service, etc. The rooms were elegantly furnished and decorated with a nice view. Our room had a personalized note welcoming us, ice in the bucket, and a plate with blackberries and a chocolate piano on it! My wife enjoyed the comfy robe. My suggestion for the king-size bed would be 4 "KING" pillows instead of 5 standards...I lost the fight for 3 of the small pillows and was stuck with 2! I might add the fish& chips we had for room service were the best I've ever eaten in Utah!

Room Tip: higher up, the better the view.

“surprisingly great”

Ok, downtown Salt Lake City does not have that much urban vibrancy to offer. But this hotel is so great that you might not mind that very much. The place is classically decorated, very spacious, clean and comfortable. And the staff absolutely bends over backward to please you. I couldn't imagine them doing anything more -- from check-in to room service to the servers in the bars and restaurants and the cleaning staff. All were consistently excellent. Nothing remotely negative to be said.

“Old fashioned luxury hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I did not choose this hotel; a business colleague booked it for me. So I must preface my review by saying the Grand America is not exactly my taste as I tend to choose modern and chain hotels for work because I know what to expect. That said, the Grand America hotel is very well kept, though a bit dated, the staff is always available and very friendly, the rooms are sufficiently large and amenities are very nice. The coffee bar in the lobby is an elegant setting with sofas and chairs/tables, a nice place to hang out in the morning. The gym is very well equipped, though it does require an additional fee. The room did not have a coffee maker, so if you like early morning coffee, request one as suggested in earlier reviews. The desk is not ideal for working on a laptop as it is a bit high. I would highly recommend it if you like this style of hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Grand America Hotel. We were delighted that the service quality, cleanliness and amenities met your expectations.

In response to our décor, luxury travel media and the many guests that have experienced our hotel to-date, have applauded us for the level of design and luxury we have brought to our city.

That being said, we realize and respect that taste and design perceptions can be subjective. I have to say that we favor being acknowledged as “classic" or "timeless” over “old fashion”, but with all sincerity and humility, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us in such thoughtful and honest detail.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Grand in the future and in the interim, remain at your service.

Sincerely,

Anthony Bartholomew

“Elegant hotel, excellent service, perfect for meetings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

This is an excellent hotel for business travel and meetings. The hotel rooms are comfortable, spacious and quiet. The views of the Rockies are awe-inspiring. The common areas are luxurious. The meeting facilities are well done. The food service for meetings was superior. Service throughout the hotel is attentive. The hotel has a wide variety of meeting facilities, from major conference rooms to small board room facilities. There is also a full-service spa available; use of the fitness facilities is at an additional charge. Wi-fi is free throughout the hotel. It is not a resort property; recreation options (hiking, skiing, golf or tennis) are available nearby. Downtown Salt Lake City is clean, quiet and safe.

The hotel lives up to its 5-diamond rating in quality of accomodations and service.

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Hotel is nice - service is friendly and prompt. Beds are a bit firm for my taste but the rooms are perfectly quiet, which is a plus. Rooms are very large and nicely laid out, albeit a bit dated. Hotel is spotless everywhere. Paying to use the gym is ridiculous - I can't recall ever having to pay to use a gym except in Vegas.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. I was delighted to read your kind remarks regarding our facility and service.

Kindly be advised that we do have softer mattress options available upon request. We can update your profile to reflect your preference and have the bed prepared to your liking during your next stay.

Candidly speaking, the spa access fee is our most discussed issue, both internally and externally. We hope the fresh fruit, bottled and flavored waters, assortment of European teas and the host of personal care products, resonate as a fair value proposition for our guests. Sadly, it does not always do so. I assure you, we will continue to work towards seeing that it does.

Thank you again for choosing the Grand America and providing helpful feedback from your stay. We look forward to seeing you back at the Grand soon and will remain at your service.

Respectfully,

Anthony Bartholomew
