“Dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

I travel a lot more my job and this is the most disappointed I have been about a hotel in a long time. I have stayed in various Candlewood Suites over the past few years and this is the first time I have been disgusted with my room. I will be spending a lot of time in this area of town over the next few years but I will never stay here again.

-Walking into the hotel you will notice the distinct smell of cigarette smoke.
-My room was very dirty. They do a terrible job cleaning the room.
-My room smelled like lingering body odor.
-The floors were dirty, found a booger on the shower curtain, and toothpaste on the bathroom cabinets.
-The "Pantry" was terrible.

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless you have to.

“Genteel Service, Require a Car, Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

The Candlewood Suites was a pleasant surprise. The plain room was big and clean, equipped with a DVD in addition to the TV. The kitchenette was functional. Free Wi-Fi, free laundry and a movie library were added bonuses. The “honor system” pantry was refreshing, although the stock included mostly junk food, with fresh apples being the only healthy choice. The two receptionists we interacted with were genteel and helpful. If you're driving, it’s good value.

“Cupboard was bare”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

I chose to stay at this hotel because I wanted to fix some of my own meals. Unfortunately the selection in the cupboard left a lot to be desired...mostly frozen, high fat foods. Nothing really for a vegetarian. Not close enough to walk to any stores and limited restaurants nearby. Room is plain but comfortable. Very quiet in spite of location near freeway and airport. Queen bed would be small for two people. Appreciated the free airport shuttle and the desk clerk was very pleasant and helpful. No pool.

“Great value; pet friendly; convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

I got a fabulous price on a room here and would happily stay here again. The bedroom had a door that shut, while the main living area included a fully stocked kitchenette and a living room with TV, couch, chair, coffee table, etc. There are on site laundry facilities and a store that stocks basic sundries. The location is very convenient to both the airport and downtown SLC. Free wireless internet. This hotel is pet friendly, and there are several nearby parks where you can take your dog to run around. Overall this was a great place for us to stay and I have no reservations about recommending it.

“Business hotel, not for leisure.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

I stayed at this hotel for the last two months for work in the Salt Lake City area. The hotel is very convenient as it is located at the airport, and downtown is about 10 minutes away, an easy drive. There are only two places to walk to for dining, and they are both owned by the same person. My co-worker had his rental broken into one night and the GPS stolen, so I would recommend keeping your car empty at night. The area overall seemed safe though.
The hotel is NOT for romantic nights, or even couples who want to feel like they are on vacation. My wife visited for 2 weeks while I was there and it was definitely not suitable for couples wanting to relax. The walls are paper thin, and I had the luxury of listening to my neighbours talk about work all night long. My work day started at 4:30 a.m. so I wanted to be asleep pretty early, but this proved difficult due to thin walls and the maid service smacking my door with the vacuum 3-4 nights a week at 8:30pm. Seems kind of late for people who want to wind down early. The front desk were helpful, but no where near the service I have received at most other hotels. They did their job, I will give them that. As far as customer service, it was lacking a bit. The free rental DVD's were very handy (the tv's are small and old), and the honor-system convenience "store" was very nice for early morning when I needed to grab a quick bite. The free laundry was a big help. No pool or hot tub kinda stinks for a ski town where relaxation is a must after a day on the slopes.

The internet deserves it's own line here as it is PATHETIC. Checking e-mail about maxes out the bandwidth......

The rooms are only cleaned once a week, and this is not too big of a deal except the trash always overflows so you will see full trash bags outside of people's rooms from time to time. The whole place always smells like a mix of cleaning solution, dirt, dogs, cigarettes, and food.
Overall this place is hard to pinpoint as to whom they cater to. It's not couples....and it can't be for business-men/women as their is no business/conference room, computers, printers, scanners, copiers, or fax machines readily available....Given the opportunity to pick our own hotels, I can speak for my colleagues in saying we would have chosen differently.
