“No more Big Box”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I am in Salt Lake for business quite a bit and had fallen into the Big Box hotel chain most of those stays. A recent run of substandard service at the City Center Big Box pushed me into the welcoming arms of The Monaco Salt Lake.
From the minute I arrived I could tell this was going to be a great trip. From the Valet to the waiter in the tasty Bambara restaurant I was made to feel welcome and important. When travel is a part of your life it is always nice to feel welcome. And thats exactly how i felt. Every morning the valet called me by name and every evening he asked how my meetings had gone. Thats what I call attention to detail.
If you really want a treat try the Elk sausage and gravy biscuit for breakfast in Bambara...truly a treat.
I will be back again and again. Isn't it funny how something as simple as remembering a guests name can make a difference. Its really not that complicated to make people feel welcome and The Monaco has done just that....no complication and your welcome....See next month at the Monaco....oh yeah and for sure at Bambara....One suggestion though $13.50 for a top shelf martini is a bit of a stretch....

“my favorite hotel of all time!!”

cannot begin to tell you how i loved the goldfish for my room, the robe, amenities, plush and luxurious room...etc. if i could stay in a kimpton/monaco hotel every time i would!

beware, the waiters at the hotel's fancy restaurant were very uppity and rude...long story but the only sour note on a great stay.

i wish i could live in that room...amazing!

Room Tip: ask for your own goldfish..makes the room so fun!!!

I have stayed here several times and each time the hotel is consistent in it's service. There are not a lot of choices in Salt Lake, but this hotel is the best the city has to offer. The staff are genuinely helpful each and every time.

“Comfort, style AND great service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I just stayed for my second time at the Hotel Monaco in downtown Salt Lake City. I'm a local just getting away for a girlfriends' weekend, so I wanted something quiet, charming and comfortable, not some big corporate monstrosity. The Hotel Monaco fit the bill exactly.

We were greated by super friendly valets who were courteous every time we got our car or brought it back (which they did super fast every time). They were always ready with directions or advice on places to go and things to do. The front desk staff was also very friendly and professional. Check in/out went quickly and smoothly. Every single person we encountered at the hotel greeted us with a smile and a good attitude.

The lobby and rooms are furnished so nicely. They don't look like every run-of-the-mill hotel. They are kind of art-deco-ish. They had all the amenities I wanted in the room...a little fridge, lots of snacks, good toilettries, soft towels, etc. The fitness room was nicely equipped (though small) and they even offered complementary ear-buds for the eliptical machines that had TVs, which was a nice touch since I hadn't throught to bring any.

The beds were extremely comfortable! Like sinking into a cloud. Ahhhh... Plenty of fluffy pillows, good room temperature, no noise in the halls. The rooms aren't overly large, but they are adequate. We had a rattling vent in the cieling at first, which we thought would necessitate a move once we went to bed and realized how loud it was. But we got on a chair and banged it a couple of times and it stopped rattling, thank goodness.

We ate breakfast at Bambara. Oh my delicious! I had the pecan waffles with orange honey-butter and fresh strawberries. AMAZING. My sister had the egg white omlette with home-made apple sausage. Also delicious. And our waiter was so courteous. I wish we had eaten every meal there.

Although we didn't come with a pet, the hotel is pet-friendly. There was a lobby dog, a cute little spaniel I think, who was shy and only came out when called. We saw a few other dogs and I thought it was nice that such a lovely hotel allows pets. None were a bother...we only saw them coming and going and never heard any in the halls or rooms.

My only complaint about our stay was that we were given what must be the worst view in the entire hotel. Third floor, facing the back alley, garbages, and next door parking structure. Hardly even a square of blue sky visible way above. I can't imagine the hotel was very full on a Sunday night, so I would have expected a better view if even one other room was available. We didn't ask for a change as we got in kind of late and just wanted to get settled. But unless the hotel was full, I think it was a bad move on their part to assign us that room. When the garbage trucks came in the wee hours, it woke us up. :(

Other than that, though, we had an excellent stay. Every aspect of the hotel from the unique decor, to the comfy beds, to the exceptionally friendly staff met or exceeded our expectations. I will definitely be back!

Room Tip: If they give you room 324, ask for a change to something else or you'll have a view of the dumps...

“Monaco Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Enjoyed a New Year celebration at the Hotel Monaco, Salt lake City. Classy place. First visit. Staff was great. Very attentive and courteous. The occasion was a company party. Bombora Restaurant (hotel eatery) catered. Wow. Food was great. Atmosphere was clean and comfortable. Didn't stay overnight, but will next chance we get the chance.
