“good for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I stayed here for two nights. There is a small kitchenette and a good-size table (these sizes vary on the rooms...my family had 2 additional rooms.) They have a workout room on the main floor as well as some basic items you can buy on the honor system (small cereals etc.) The room was basic and clean. The AC worked and the room was quiet. I read about rude staff on a few other reviews. This was not my experience at all. They were happy to print out boarding passes for airlines and they even helped me to print out a personal document (my speech for a family member's funeral.) If you don't know the location, it is suburban SLC. Great access to the freeway, some major box stores (old navy, barnes and noble etc.) and the ski resorts up the canyons.

“Great location, very basic accommodation”

We booked here because of its proximity to skiing (less than 30 minutes to Solitutude, Brighton, Alta, Snowbird). In addition, there were four or five ski rental shops within a mile. There were a 'state wine and liquor store' and a coffee shop less than a mile away, apparently rarities in Utah. We spent five nights at the motel. The "suites" were very small, dated rooms that lacked basic furniture. There was no daily room service. The first room we were assigned had an intense odor and the shower knob was not working. The pillow cases were unclean. We asked for and received another room that was equally dated and imperfectly clean but without other obvious defects. On the third day we discovered that the door lock of that room was not working and we had been leaving it unlocked every day. In Utah, that is not a big deal, but I would have liked to be aware of that. And while we did buy wine, we could not buy a corkscrew anywhere in the area (the state wine store did not sell openers, Target did not carry them, gas stations had never heard of them, and the motel did not have any - we gave up and pushed the cork into the bottle). One thing we liked about the motel was the little self-service store in the laundry and gym area, where snacks, water, and small items could be bought at reasonable prices. The night before checkout, they slipped someone else's bill under the door, and we were quite disappointed to discover that the other guest was paying $35/night less than us ($57/night for the same room type).

“Meets the need for a family stay”

Our family of four needed a value hotel to visit family and ski over Christmas. We decided to go the value route and get two rooms, one for teen aged kids and one for adults. The price for the two rooms was less than one room at a higher end suite hotel at similar location. It was not as nice but the extra space was more comfortable. The front desk was helpful with puzzles and games and the puzzle even had all the pieces. The location is perfect for shopping, restaurants and skiing. We rented skis right across the street on Ft. Union and then you have fast access to I-215 to get to any resort you wish. It is an ideal location for value ski hotel. You have a kitchen, internet access and cable TV. The fold out bed was comfortable enough for a short stay. All said there is nothing extraordinary about this hotel. It is what you would expect for the price, nothing more and nothing less.

Room Tip: We wanted connecting rooms but this is only available for certain room types. When we booked we ask...

“A Very Nice Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

I needed a place to stay for one night and wasn't looking for a 5 star resort. Upon arrival and the Candlewood Suites, the receptionist was very nice and check in was quick and easy.

When I entered the room I was surprised at how well appointed it is. Small refrigerator (not dorm small) two burner cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, DVD player, nice recliner, desk/table and chairs. I can't imagine needing to cook because there are so many good restaurants just outside the door! Anyway, the room was spotless. The sheets were not your typical scorched white hotel sheets. They were a pretty cream with a nice pattern and quite soft. Same with the bath towels. Thick, soft, and not white. This made the room feel less hotelish. The carpet was in great shape and the bedspread was very current. The bed was extremely comfortable. I expected to see a lot of lights and hear noise because it is in such a hopping location, but when I went to close the shades you would never know anyone was around. Dark and quiet.

The hotel has a small workout room and a place called "The Cupboard". You can buy snacks and drinks and it is....are you ready for this....on the honor system. Be sure and add a tip for the convenience!

The check-out was as quick and easy as the check-in and every bit as friendly.

Room Tip: I was in room 207 and it was quiet.

“Good for what we paid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2011

We wanted a cheap hotel to stay at for 1 nights whilst travelling from Las Vegas to Yellowstone National Park. The Candlewood had a good rate on the internet so we decided to go for this hotel. The location was not an issued as long as it was on our route.
We didn't arrive at the hotel until 10.30 pm. The reception was still open so we were able to check in easily.
The room was a good size and clean but was a little dated. It had a fridge/freezer, cooker, dishwasher, sink. The bathroom was again a fair size but did need upgrading. The bed was not the comfiest bed but after travelling for around 15 hours, it didn't stop us sleeping.
We started our journey to Yellowstone National Park at 6.30 am so did not really spend a lot of time at the hotel. I can't really comment on the location as we did not visit anywher in Salt Lake City.
