They call the rooms with shared bathrooms "Euro style," which is kind of a euphemism, but really the hotel does have an interestingly European feel. It reminded me very much of small hotels where I have stayed in England. It was "different." If you like that sort of thing, well, you know who you are. We found it charming and would gladly stay again.
I did try for an ensuite room, but they were all full, so we had a "Euro" room and had no problems at all with the shared baths. They were always available and immaculate. The price was fantastic. It is a serious thing about the stairs, though. If you aren't comfortable climbing a couple of longish flights of stairs (one just to get to the reception area and another to get to the rooms), then absolutely keep looking.
The location is good and would be prime if you were taking the ferry. You can walk down to the waterfront area in just a couple of minutes. You are also right in the downtown area, just a block down from the street where Bella Italia and other restaurants are, plus the movie theater, bookstore, etc.
I suppose it is somewhat noisy due to the location. There are all kinds of mysterious waterfront noises, including big trucks coming off the ferry and passing outside the window late at night. The seagulls screech constantly. I found it interesting, but I'm a heavy sleeper and enjoy sights and sounds when on vacation.
Overall, I would love to stay here again and highly recommend it. Port Angeles is a cool place to stay in general. Hurricane Ridge is a must-see, and if you have young kids, there is a playground to die for on Race Street. We went four times.
