“Nice Hotel - Unfortunate experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in October 2011. We chose to stay here due to the TA ratings. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised and very happy with the Inn, it's location and the room. The puplic rooms are also beatufully furnished. We received a genuinely gracious and warm welcome from Joanna - She really is a credit to this Inn - Staff with this experience and humility are really worth their weight in Gold.

Unfortunately we did not have a good nights sleep on the first night and we felt compelled to request a change of room. The room we were allocated initially was the William Bartram room which overlooked the back garden - the room also directly overlooked the kitchen's extractor fan / hood. Due to the fact that no windows have been upgraded at the Inn, the noise was unbearable - you could even smell what was being cooked in the kitchen ! For the price we were quoted per night - this was not acceptable. Luckily, we were moved for the second night and slept comfortably.

I refused to pay for the first night which, to their credit, the Inn accepted as the best solution all round without argument.

Our stay at the Inn was therefore spoiled by the experience of the first night - maybe our expectations were set too high. On closer inspection and now with a critical eye, you could see that the rooms at the hotel are now in need of maintenance. There are references everywhere to the awards won by the Inn during 1998 - which is 13 years ago - I'll let you make your own conclusions.

Liked - The Staff

Disliked - The Bartram Room

Room Tip: Avoid the Bartram room

“wonderful place to stay”

We stayed here for one night and wish it could have been longer just for the wonderful setting and the so friendly staff. It was just like being on the film set of Gone With the Wind. We had a very warm welcome and our room was lovely - very individual. Pre- dinner canapes were a nice surprise and eating breakfast in an antique filled room was an enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: they're all good

“Beautiful House and Rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

The rooms were beautiful, luxuriously furnished. The house was stunning with many grandly appointed reception areas. Gloria and Joanna were very charming and helpful. Lovely tea with chocolates, quiches etc. offered to the guests. Good breakfast. Very good toiletries, bathroom robes, soft towels...and all the other amenities. Everything has been done very thoughtfully.
Pity we could not stay longer.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, we enjoyed our enormous Super king size bed and bedroom in the cottage at t...

“This hotel is a reason in itself to visit Macon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Even if you have no reason to visit Macon, Georgia, you need to visit the 1841 Inn. As well as ticking all the usual boxes (location, comfort, amenities etc) this hotel ticks all the extraordinary and unusual boxes as well. Where else can you stay in a genuine antebellum mansion, surrounded by glorious antiques, living an elegant lifestyle from a bygone age and enjoying an unparalleled standard of Southern hospitality? From the moment we walked into reception, we were made to feel as the most welcomed guests in a private home. Before we'd even opened our mouth, Miss Gloria greeted us with "Now I'm guessing y'all must be the Harrisons? I'm serving hors d'oeuvres in the parlour in an hour so we need to get y'all settled in and comfortable!" Magical! And the magic continued throughout our stay with everyone we met falling over themselves to make our stay memorable and unique, from Miss JoAnne making the hugest fuss over my recent 50th birthday (which she'd spotted from our passport details) to Miss Gloria (2) keeping us topped up with drinks and snacks from the kitchen. We have no particular reason to go back to Macon, lovely as the town is. But go back we will, because this hotel is a true find and we cannot recommend it highly enough!

Room Tip: Doesn't matter which room you choose. From what we heard from other guests at the gatherings in...

“Charming and comfortable!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

For comfort and service, we highly recommend the 1842 Inn. The inn is conveniently located, yet in a quiet and safe location, and the staff makes you feel right at home. It is wonderfully decorated and well maintained, but could use just a dab of paint in a few places to bring back the full beauty of the rooms. Our room was very clean, comfortable and breakfast included a wide array of delicious options.
