This motel had everything we looked for. Though we only stayed one night, we could easily have stayed longer. The staff were very friendly, and our unit was clean, bright and comfortable. Only the shower was a bit low for tall guests - like us!

We spent 2 nights here while we explored the Fox Glacier area. Our room was small, but clean. We appreciated the covered car park and room entrance as it rained throughout most of our stay. We also took advantage of the guest laundry, and were glad they had 2 washers and 2 dryers so we could complete all our laundry in one attempt. As in several other of the places we stayed, the bathroom had a simple shower where you pulled the curtain to section of a part of the bathroom. This motel, by far, had the most efficient design for this - the floor sloped which helped keep the water from getting everywhere and also there was plenty of space inside the curtain.

The location was good as well - we were able to walk to dinner from the motel, and we were also able to walk to the check-in for our Fox Glacier guided hike.

The motel is quite basic, however Fox glacier has few options available and this motel is one of the better ones. We had booked studio unit. Room was clean, there was a TV (only free channels). Kitchen is adequately furnished with a microwave, burner and a fridge. No heater in bathrooom (sorely missed). Complimentary milk pouch was provided. Car park is next to the cottage itself (great idea as it saved the walk in cold!)
The motel is near glacier guiding office, however the name is misleading as its nowhere near Lake Matheson. View outside room is ordinary.
However the staff at reception did seem to push hard to convince us that heli-trek service by an operator other than Fox Glacier guiding was better.

We booked the king studio - A nice spacious room with a couch, breakfast table, kitchenette & bathroom. It is very handy to the restaurants. The owners are helpful also.
