“Nice experience - could get more for the money though”

Stayed one night - arrived in pouring rain but gave a nice atmosphere. Check in staff were friendly and helpful - drove us to our tent in a buggy.
There was a problem with the toilet in our original tent but were moved to another fairly quickly.
Beautiful outlook over, surprisingly, paperbark trees - able to roll up/down flaps for privacy. The toilet/shower is "open-planned" but we had no issues with privacy since there were shades up/overlooking bush with no tracks. There are no 240V outlets in your room so make sure your electricals are fully charged - otherwise can recharge in the restaurant/lobby.
Very quiet night and comfortable sleep with the sounds of nature - I find it difficult to believe that you could hear other people talking in their tents unless they were shouting!
Eating at the restaurant was also very nice with an interesting menu. Staff were all very nice.
My only issue is that it is probably overpriced for what you get. I've stayed in similar style eco-resorts in Australia for less - mind you, we did stay during the "peak" school holiday season, but still not really worth it.
I agree with another reviewer that if you are charging that amount per night for a B&B - it's a bit petty to charge $3.50 extra per espresso with breakfast - surely it could be absorbed into the rate.

“Deluxe under canvas experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Our travel agent always comes up with something quirky and in November last year booked us this deluxe tent experience. You are almost at one with nature but have your mod cons of a decent bathroom albeit open air. Wonderful to shower and look over the wooden surround of the bathroom to the surrounding camp. You need to ensure you keep your sleeping area zipped up to prevent mosquitoes getting in. It really is a five star bedroom situated in a tent within an additional canvas tent. At night time the possiums were crawling over the canvas and we heard the thump, thump of the kangaroos bounding past. In the day time we spotted one kangaroo and a few birds, but it is night time that the animals move about. The staff are great and the skyline Gunyah restaurant is a delightful place for your evening meal with log burner. Hire bikes and cycle out along the shoalhaven coastline. Two nights are sufficient - Ok its a bit expensive but well worth the experience.

Room Tip: I cannot comment on the level of any other tent, ours was deluxe and was situated in the middle of t...

“Interesting experience but very overpriced”

The positives; absolutely lovely staff, the Gunyah restaurant is awesome, both for dinner and breakfast, and the camp is in a gorgeous bushland setting.

However, despite the above, we had a very uncomfortable nights stay here. We paid over $300 for the nights stay and expected a certain level of comfort but what greeted us was a tent full of mozzies (the zips on the tent couldn't fully close so they got in) and a bathroom that did not have adequate privacy - the screens set up on either side did not prevent passers by from seeing us (in the shower or on the toilet!). We were far too close to the next tent and we could hear every word they said, so obviously they could hear us. It was a hot night and I understand an eco lodge can't have air con but even a ceiling fan would have been much appreciated. I like the concept of this place but I would have been much happier had I paid around $100 for the night.

I do recommend visiting the restaurant though - in hindsight I wished we had booked other accommodation and just gone for dinner at the camp instead.

“Bush paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I can't honestly say I went camping, or even glamping for that matter. Not when you are reading your favourite novel in a claw bath while surrounded by the Australian bush, there's even a bench to rest your glass of red wine. If you are looking for a romantic escape, about 3 hours drive from Sydney in unique accomodation, this is your answer. Our lodge, the Kookaburra, was totally private, clean, comfy bed, good mags and high quality soaps and moisturisers. You may see a kangaroo hop past or just sit on the verandah and listen to the birdlife. We took a canoe and paddled 1 1/2 hours into Huskinson, had a swim in the crystal clear water and saw the biggest stingray float by. It's so clean in the south coast and the beaches are really beautiful - white sand, blue blue water and some cool cafes such as the one at Hyams Beach corner store (excellent service with a great organic menu) Our highlight at Paperbark was probably the food. Art on a plate. The attention to detail is superior and is one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Stopped off in Berry on the way home for some Christmas shopping. Paperbark is a special place where you can do nothing or plenty - either way, you are in the middle of a bush paradise and you won't get this experience from anywhere else. Suggest you get a 'tent' on the outer skirts as some nearer the main eating area did not seem as private. Money well spent.

Room Tip: Get a tent on the outer skirts so you are not near the restaurant - could get a bit noisy

“A dream getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My husband and I spent two nights in a Deluxe Safari tent on a short break from work, and I can't think of a better place to recharge your batteries. It combines all the relaxing aspects of camping, without any of the discomfort. It was delightful at night to lie in a luxuriously comfortable bed with only some netting separating us from the surrounding bushland. We kept the tent's net flaps closed during the day as suggested, and didn't need to use the mosquito netting over the bed. We appreciated the choice of pillow types as we each preferred a different one. The open-air bathroom was thoughtfully designed and very clean. Solar lighting provided enough light to read by at night. Meals at the Gunyah restaurant were superb, and I recommend the sailing trip on the Discover catamaran. Also appreciated were the canoes and kayaks, freely available at any time - I think we were paddling down the river within about half an hour of arriving, all city cares quickly vanished.

Room Tip: The Deluxe tents not only have a bath, but much larger decks which nearly doubles the living space.
