“Pretty from the outside, falling apart from the inside”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We have booked this place for 6 nights, at 400 EUR per night for the room of the 2nd highest level. On arrival we got upgraded to the highest level room as the rest of the rooms was full. First impression: amazing. Beautiful views from the deck in front of the room, small private pool, spacious, jacuzzi, sauna... And then you start looking better, and you see the place is falling apart: pool tiles missing, inside of the closet falling apart to the extent that it's windy, the wind coming from the outside and making noise the whole night (which also means that animals of all sorts can come in without a problem). You can see an autograph of Gisele Bunchen in the room, she was apparently there with Leo di Caprio in the early years of the hotel. I can imagine they liked it back then, but they'd run screaming if they saw it now. Do something about the maintenance, guys! Really! We ate our first dinner at the restaurant at the pool, and it was one of our most mediocre meals in Brazil. So we were forced to eat out the rest of the days. Luckily, there are plenty good options in Pipa. For the rest, the communal areas are pretty, the maintenance is also there behind but a bit less than in the room. The lounge above the restaurant is beautiful. The cocktails are also lovely. The staff is super friendly. They came to remove the cockroaches from our room every time we called (3 times). And yes, we were happy to have our own mosquito net as we would have not slept a minute there otherwise considering we're both scared of roaches. Out of 6 days we were there, the internet didn't work 5 days. We complained, and got a voucher for a free dinner at their restaurant. Considering the experience from the first night, we asked if possible to wave the bill of the first evening. They would have talked to the owner, and in the end this was not possible. So we got no compensation for no internet, while this was a BIG problem for us, both not being able to work. They said our compensation was an extra hour (yes, a full hour) that we could stay longer in our room on our day of check-out. Terrible. Don;t get me wrong, the staff was for the rest really amazing. Very helpful. My man got bitten by a monkey, and they did all in their power to arrange a ride, direct us where to go get the shots, etc. Also they arranged us a great day tour, and always picked up the phone with a smile. They also arranged soy mil for us at breakfast as we're both lactose intolerant. So it's not all that dark, but I would really not recommend this place to anyone as it's seriously overpriced for what it is. We also had a look at the Resort part, and we were VERY glad we didn't stay there. It's an overpriced Dysneyland-looking place where you have no privacy, all the houses are stuffed together. Glad we didn't book that one! In that sense we at least made the right choice to book our room at the hotel part. We had privacy at least, which is the least once expects for that sort of money. The room was pretty for the rest, spacious, the bed was huge and good. The bathroom simplicity doesn't match the level this place is supposed to be. All in all, some maintenance is really overdue.

Room Tip: We had the highest level room, the tiles on the floor are not a big success, pretty ugly. We heard t...

“This hotel is in Pipa”

Beautiful hotel, great entrance, but in the wrong place. The surrounding area is awful. This hotel is very close to Praia Do Amor. taking in account what Pipa has to offer, this hotel is a lot more of what you can expect.

“Worst value for money ever been!”

Hotel seems to be nice, but the spa stays 300 mts away, huge rooms without windows nor furniture, climb morro for breakfast in the hotel, dark and unclean street, far from the beach. Dont ever go to the Spa!

“Simply Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Spent the first week of our honeymoon here in Aug 2010, and it was absolutely perfect. 5 star in every way.

August is low season in Brasil, so it was very quiet, with many unoccupied rooms, and there is rain occasionally, but in general it was hot (28-30 ish during the day and still warm in the evening).

The rooms are beautiful, every one is different, with HUGE beds, most with balconies, sea views, some with jacuzzi or private pool. I paid a little extra (can't remember how much but it wasn't much more than the transfer cost) for the "honeymoon package" which included the airport transfer, champagne in the car, food & wine waiting for us in the room, breakfast in the room on the first morning, and flannels embroidered with our names!

We had a master suite with sea view, jacuzzi & sauna (one of the best rooms) and was huge with a huge balcony. It was about £280 a night in low season. Our jacuzzi wasn't working properly and after trying to fix it they offered to let us use the jacuzzi in one of the empty rooms, but we weren't that bothered. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and would happily bring even the most simple things via room service for no extra cost. You can book by email but may need to phone and pay a 50% deposit in advance.

Breakfast was a very impressive buffet including everything imaginable, and the restaurant was also excellent and reasonably priced.

2 pools, one overlooking Pipa village and one overlooking the Praia do Amor and the ocean. Didn't see the spa / gym.

The village of Pipa is a 10-15 min walk down the cobbled road (downhill), which has a range of restaurants, cafes, bars and a few shops. There was an ATM although I hadn't been expecting one so I didn't try my UK card in it. It's generally quiet during the day but gets busier in the evening. There are a few activities that the village travel agents can organise, e.g. dolphin watching, surfing lessons etc. (The hotel has a sister resort with the same name down the hill and across the road)

All in all, simply amazing for a honeymoon. Best hotel I have ever stayed at without a doubt. I would be amazed if it is not the best hotel in Pipa, and it certainly has the best location, on the hill overlooking everything else. See http://www.sombraeaguafresca.com.br/ for photos, info and booking. The photos don't lie!

“Sublime start to honeymoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

This was the first stop on our honeymoon, we wanted to relax and unwind and this turned out to be the perfect place to do it. From the arrival which was quick and well-organised, to the friendly guy on the golf cart who takes you to your room, the welcome was great. The room itself was simple, but perfectly fine. The place comes into its own though when you get around the upper pool. Unbelievable views over the Atlantic, cold beers and cocktails on top and hammocks and double sun beds to while away the time. The food in the restaurant was very good but not cheap so we took a walk into the town most nights. Breakfast was lovely though. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a quiet break! We booked it through Imagine Latin America who also deserve a mention for organising our 3 week multi stop break.
