We stayed in #905, after the owners graciously agreed to our request for a 4-night stay (shorter than their regular minimum). Never having been to Maui, we were bewildered by all the options - condo or hotel? On the beach (with the premium price to match) or up the hill (at a more reasonable price)? For this part of our stay, I'm glad we chose a condo up the hill. Ekolu Village is up the hill from the Shops at Wailea, in a quiet area overlooking a golf course. This unit had beautiful ocean views, close enough that we enjoyed gazing out at the sunsets, but far enough away from the beach that we were protected from some of the fierce winds that kicked up during our stay.
The unit was nicely appointed, with pretty artwork and furniture, nice dishes and pots/pans, very basic staples (one roll of paper towel, salt/pepper/spices, some condiments, laundry detergent), 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It was more room than we needed, but with all of our stuff and the multiple showers per day the mix of SPF and beach sand caused, we were happy for the space. The resort area was very quiet - I really don't think we saw or heard another resident while we were there. The only people we saw were the landscapers (nice, polite) and a security guard (who knocked at our door at 8 PM one night asking who we were and how long we were staying - we told him through the closed door because we hadn't been told such a visit was a possibility and one can never be too careful).
We didn't use the pool, but only because Makena beach was a short drive away and so wonderful (access through the Makena Beach and Golf Resort). There are two pools on site, accessible with a key provided by the unit owners. The pool looked clean and inviting when we walked by one of them.
The owners also very kindly permitted a late check out when we asked because the unit was not booked for that evening, which permitted us an additional beach trip without having to leave all our stuff in the car. All in all, a very clean, enjoyable home away from home with a fabulous view, quiet surroundings, and comfortable bed and couches. (Another bonus was that the living room furniture was actual furniture - fluffy love seat, fluffy full-sized couch which is also a pull out...none of that uncomfortable, un-fluffy rattan-armed tropical-themed furniture which I personally find to be lacking at the end of an action-packed beach day when all I want to do after a nice shower is curl up in my jammies on the couch and watch the sunset).
A wonderful rental property and a great place to serve as your home base on vacation.
