“A Big Surprise on the Upside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2011

We stayed there twice in April over night on our way to and from Qaanaaq. We were with a group of ten people who went dog sledding and camping for a week in Qaanaaq.

They were always prompt picking us up and delivering us to the airport. The place is so clean. Rooms are quite adequate with an amazing view. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were provided as part of our stay and the food was amazing. The view from the dining room is jaw dropping. It was easy to walk from the hotel around the town. This place really surprised us on the upside.

Internet is available but must be purchased on an hourly basis.

“Alll I want is a room somewhere. . .”

The hotel is fine, and the three star rating they carry is pretty accurate. I have heard from guests who transfered over from other hotels that this is the nicest in town. It is pretty simple and up to date, though it is not furnished with any flare. It looked like it came out of an IKEA. Anyway, the hotel is basic, pleasant, nice location, but oh so expensive for what it is. Then again, so is the rest of Greenland . . .good breakfasts, dinners were too pricey for what you got--appetizers uniformly $18, entrees ran $40-$50. They just weren't very well prepared for the price

“Great Views of the Icefjord”

The rooms are pretty basic but are clean and comfortable. However, visitors to greenland aren't there to spend time indoors.Tthe views are simply spectacular. It's not everyday you can open the blinds and see icebergs floating past!!

The staff are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel restaurant was surprisingly good for such a small establishment.

What a place to visit. The hotel: Rooms basic but pay the extra for the top floor. You get a French bolcony, a door that opens with a piece of wood across the space to stop you falling out. BUT the view is just OOOOOO. You do not get friendly and name a iceberg as tomorrow it will have sailed away. There will be another one in its place though. The sound of distant cracking and booming of the bergs falling apart forever prevellent. This establishment has its own micro brewery. Food is average, kitchen run by Thais so choice of western or Thai. Restaurant and deck outside spots to stare at the floating flatilla. Only gripe is booking. A deposit is required and must be bank draft to their account. YOU get charged by your bank and then the Greenland bank in NUUK. Rude. We cant access your credit card unless you are here to enter it manually. we dont have the software to take deposits. They need to pull finger here.
Day trips to the galciers are VERY expensive but if you have not seen one carving its ice off then spend the money. Walks from town around the coast , three lengths the longest 5hrs. Masive bergs.Lots of them. Some people complain of mossies and flys and wear curtain hats. It is not at all bad here like east Greenland. Just use a good deet repelent and enyoy. There are lots of husky's about, living on rock in summer and ice and snow in winter. They are working dogs, transport in winter, it is not advisable to put out a hand as it will more than likely be bitten off.TheTown very small with a couple of supermakets. Greenland expensive? I found Norway the most expensive place ive been.
If you have ever thought about going to Greenland, stop thinking and do it. Especially here in illulissat. In summer as winter looks very dark to me and lots more ice and stuff
