This was a family reunion of four families with children, ages 3 to 8. The place seemed to have a winning combination for us: golf for the dads, spa for the moms and outdoor/indoor pool for the kids.
Sourroundings: The hotel is physically located in the middle of nowhere, on a field (no trees, no views but a couple of hydro lines and the highway). It's at the foot of the Laviolette bridge which goes into Trois-Rivières. It's so close to the St-Lawrence yet there is no water view.
Rooms: We stayed on the third floor, which was obvisouly a former smokers' floor (the hotel is now a smoke-free environment). The smell is very strong in the corridor. I thought it wasn't as bad in the room, but upon returning home, I realized all our clothes smelt like cigarette. Furniture and set up definitely don't have the upscale look the Auberge aspires to. Space is reasonable for 2 adults and 2 children. The premises were neat and clean.
Pools: The four-season pool: was supposed to be ready late August, then early September.., and it wasn't. It was quite a deception because it was one of the reason we had booked the hotel (the kids had been delighted by a previous experience at the Manoir Richelieu in Charlevoix and were really looking forward to this). The indoor pool was beautiful, and very warm.
Spa: It's small but nice. It's in the basement of the hotel so unfortunately, there is no exterior view to enjoy after your treatments. The staff is welcoming and cheerful. My massage therapist was wonderful!
Restaurant: We had booked an early evening reservation at 6:30, since we had children and were hoping to be out of there by 9. I've never experienced such SLOW service! It was a joke. Our server was amiable, but he seemed to be tending too many tables (we were a group of 15, they should have sent in some help). We orderd the food for the kids very early on and their plates didn't get to the table until 8:15 or so (by that time they were no longer hungry). Desert arrived around 10, and they could'nt even manage to serve everybody at the same time. I felt like they made us "pay" for bringing the kids! All in all, we got out of the restaurant at 10:30 pm. It turned out to be a lousy and much too expensive evening for what we payed. At check out, I told the clerk how bad the service was and she told me we were not the first ones to complain. As far as the smoke smell goes, she said they were in the process of redoing the rooms (the second floor has already been renovated).
Overall, the experience was not up to par. I definitely will not be returning and not be recommending this place. Much too expensive for what we got.
