“Phillip and Linda are the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

My wife and I stayed in the Partridgeberry Room at the Rosedale in September of 2011 while we were exploring the Avalon Penninsula. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We booked the Rosedale at the last minute and were told to pick up our keys at Phillips Cafe, run by the owners, two or three blocks from the Rosedale. We were treated to a delicious coffee and treats on our arrival. Shelley had a freshly baked Raspberry and Chocolate Chip muffin and I had a thick slice of fresh brown bread right out of the oven with Bakeapple jam - my fav.

The room is cozy and comfortable. The bed is great as are the linens. The house itself is cute and well located. Renovations that Phillip and Linda did were spot on. And, above all, it was spotless.

Probably the highlight was breakfast at Phillips the following day. The food never stopped coming and they even offered us a muffin to take along. Shelley had ham, eggs and potatoes and I had steel cut oatmeal with tons of fruit including freshly picked wild blueberries. The conversation with Linda and Phillip was great. They are truly warm and real.

Hint: You can buy a monogramed Phillips Cafe apron after breakfast with the skull and crossbones logo of the cafe - "Submit to your Cravings"

We would highly recommend the Rosedale and would be sure to return ourselves.

Room Tip: All the rooms look great. Our room had a shared bath but nobody was in the Bakeapple room so we had...

“The Rosedale Manor”

Four of us stayed at the Rosedale on our way to St. Johns for our 10 day CapeRace Adventure, and on the way back to the ferry. Linda was very helpful with directions and suggestions, and gave us a history lesson about resettlement and the "Uprooted" at Argentia. And the house was wonderful, and we enjoyed the company of the other guests. We loved breakfast and the muffins--and Philip's truffles are the best.

“Beautiful Setting”

Plesant experience, the ladies looking after us were wonderful. Linda and Phil were leaving so we did not experience Phils Bakery.

“This was a lovely heritage home.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

My husband and I enjoyed staying in the Osprey Room, a queen size bed and room facing the water. The bed was comfortable and the setting, including their garden, was beautiful.
One of the parts we especially liked was that the couple who own this run Philip's Cafe/Bakery and Philip is a wonderful chef. When you stop at the bakery to pick up your keys, you receive a complimentary drink and a daily treat (and his selection of breads, desserts, cookies, and muffins are sublime!). Also, when you are ready for breakfast the next day, you come back to Philip's Cafe for any breakfast you care to order. That includes his homemade quiches which may be reason enough to stay at the Rosedale Manor!

The novelty of going to the bakery for breakfast and a treat is also a bit of a negative. There is no owner living in the home so that means there is no one there to facilitate conversations, ask questions, or with whom to converse. If it is a night where there are no other people around, the house has a bit of an empty, cold feeling. Most of the times we stay at a bed and breakfast, my husband and I enjoy a conversation with people who live there and feel that it helps us to know the area a bit better.

One huge thing that was very nice is that the owners told us we could use the phone at the house for any free calls to Canada or the U.S. Because of our mobile phone not working well in Newfoundland, this was a great offer.

One other reason we loved this was their recommendation to eat at the Three Sisters.
In fifteen days of Newfoundland and Labrador, this was absolutely the very best chowder I have ever had! The restaurant is lovely, service wonderful, and food indescribably delicious. Be sure and make a reservation during the busy season, however.

Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is about an hour away and you surely don't want to miss Bird Island and seeing the gannets there---an absolute must see!

We'd stay at Rosedale Manor again and the hosts are extremely hospitable--they just do not reside at Rosedale Manor.

“"Lovely Bed and breakfast"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

I stayed here with my mother on our trip to Newfoundland. The room was lovely, comfortable, clean and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. We enjoyed the breakfast, treats and conversation with our hosts, Linda and Phil at Phil's Bakery and Cafe located a short distance from Rosedale Manor. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the BakeApple room with two beds- but from what I could see all of the rooms were lovel...
