We had the best weekend at Elgin Plantation. Mrs. Calhoun is wonderful hostess. She gave wonderful tips for sightseeing in Natchez. We had a full southern breakfast prepared by Lizzie. Lizzie was a delight to talk with. Elgin is a very peaceful and beautiful plantation. We plan to come back!

My Mother and I went to Natchez for a mini-vacation and stayed at Elgin Plantation. Ms. Ruth Ellen Calhoun is the epitomy of a Southern Lady. Being from the south ourselves, it's nice to see that tradition is not totally gone. She was so very gracious and made us feel completely at home. She was also very helpful with local tourism sites, where to eat and what to see. It's only a 5-10 min drive from downtown Natchez, but just the sort of place that feels like quiet country living and a true blessing to come home to. We will definitely be back to stay at Elgin again.

I have visited Natchez on numerous occasions and the one place we always stay is Elgin Plantation. The B&B with the beautiful gardens,the wealth of history in the many journals of the previous owner available to read at your leisure and the numerous stories of the history of Natchez as told by the gracious host/owner Ruth Calhoun. Althought tis would be enough to make you want to return,Ourbmain reason is the gracious host Ruth Calhoun and housekeeper/friend Lizzie, they are what make this place one to visit and stay awhile. Their gracious southern hospitality and the way they make you feel when you return for visits, like an ole friend coming back for a visit with family friends.

My husband and I visited Natchez in October 2009. We just missed the yearly Pilgrimage and Balloon Festival. We stayed one night at the Elgin Plantation. What a treat! Mrs. Calhoun greeted us, gave us a tour of the B&B which is the former slave house but in great shape and let us pick out our room. She was so informative about the houses past owners and so kind to us. She gave us restaurant suggestion. This house has three bedrooms which each sleep 3 and 2 1/2 baths and the downstairs living quarters is for all to use, big living room (only TV) and dining room. The frig. is stocked with wine, beer, soda and goodies. Each room is decorated nicely and with period furniture. What a treat to discover the period costumes in the closets. I dressed up in 3 outfits and took lots of pictures. Loved it! Miss Lizzie had coffee ready early, had a great breakfast while we visited with her. Then we toured the big house where Mr and Mrs Calhoun live now and where the plantation owner would have lived. It was really interesting. The grounds are pretty and it is about 10 minutes from town.
