“Enjoyed our stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

Our trip to PA and NYC was cancelled because of the snowstorm, so we made last minute arrangements to visit the Natchez Trace Trail area and New Orleans. We called several historic inns and B&Bs and found Dunleith Plantation met our interests best and had 3 person accommodations as our teenage son was traveling with us. The grounds and facilities are beautiful and were very well kept. Our room was large, comfortable and clean, and had a gas fireplace. The staff were pleasant, helpful but not "everpresent" like we have found at other simiiar lodgings. The value was very reasonable at $135 per night which included a few breakfast at the Plantation's restaurant on the grounds.

The Plantation also offers free tours for guests of the public parts of the Mansion. The tour guide was very informative and entertaining. Dunleith is located in town, but sits on 40 acres. It is very convenient to everything, but you feel away from it all while there.

The only negative is that the facilities and lodging appeared that it would not be very accessible to persons with ambulation issues.

“Needs an elevator!”

I would have to concur with the flavour of recent reviews, having booked Dunleith after missing out on others. The rooms in the main building are substantial, but carting cases up several flights of stairs without assistance was not pleasurable. The taps in my bathroom were leaking badly and the bathroom itself bordering on inadequate (and I am a tolerant chap..) Check-in was the best bit; the restaurant was shut on Sunday night and breakfast was uninteresting, for the South. Beautiful home and gardens but not worth the effort.

“Definitly not recommended”

The house and grounds are very nice without doubt. We got stuck in a cobweb infested servents quarters. The worn out rugs were soiled and you pretty much need to be an Olympic athlete to get to the majority of the rooms. The restaurant is over priced. The bar was pretty good but the service below average. Our promised tour of the main house was cancelled due to a private function. There was reluctance to refund our prepaid cost for the tour. We really screwed up by not checking TripAdvisor for this accomodation. Even 20 out of 32 is high.

“Disappointed”

Dunleith was recommended to us by friends from Mississippi who always stay there when in Natchez. Having to use an out side stairway over 70 stairs to our room was really difficult.
We felt like second class citizens as there were wedding plans going on with the wedding the next day. So we had to check out for that night and come back the next day to continue our visit. Don't expect to use any part of the house besides your own room The main parts of the house are off limits. The tour of the house is a disappointment as you only see the first floor and none of the furniture belonged to the original families. The day following the wedding, the house and grounds were strewn with remnants of the big day, glasses, bottles etc everywhere. Mops, brooms and vacuums left in the corners. The rooms we stayed in were large, but worn around the edges like the carpets on the stairs. The Pub and Castle restaurant were fine. Food was good. Service was good. The place has such potential, but needs a lot of work.

“Need's a little care”

We enjoyed experiencing the history of Dunlieth. The outside is beautiful, and just what you think of when you think of the South. The suite we had was managable, but, in dire need of updating. It did have good bones...just needed a bit of cleaning and attention. The quality of the mattress was good. I would, however, suggest you make the splurge and stay at Monmoth.
