There are many things to recommend about this motel: the nice person at check-in, the patio fireplace, the continental breakfast that wasn't all carbs, the book and video library (which I didn't use but appreciate none the less), reliable wifi, the fabulous on-site restaurant. However, for me, it was way overpriced. Maybe not for the neighborhood and probably not for a couple or a family. But I didn't feel that the room was worth the almost $200 per night that I paid. The furnishings were nice but the room felt a bit cramped because there was just too much furniture for the space. They get kudos for being of the few lodgings I've stayed at that actually meant what they said about their environmental policy (meaning they didn't change my linens when I asked them not too). But I just can't get beyond that room rate. Also, I have to knock them down a point because the process of making my reservation by phone was way less than stellar. I normally make all reservations online but the elderly friend I was there to visit had already made the reservation and I just needed to call them with my credit card number. What should have been a three-minute transaction took the better part of 15 minutes! Also, they sent a post-visit survey that I spent a great deal of time responding to yet they never responded to me!

Greetings and thank you for takingf the time to post a review. We appreciate all feedback positive or negative. It sounds like your reservation process took a bit longer than you anticipated and my apologies for that. It will usually take a bit longer when making reservations for other guests and paying for other guests as we require written and signed authorizations to make those kinds of reservations. It is a very standard procedure in the hotel industry. It protects you, the establishment and the guests identity. But do come back and visit again, I will personally see that you are upgraded to a larger type room for your trouble.

“Decent stay but nothing spectacular”

Stayed here for 1 night on the way up to Stinson Beach and used a LivingSocial coupon. The hallways were very cold and showed their age, but our room was nicer. The bed was very comfortable and the room decently-sized, but the bathroom was not as updated as the bedroom and the tub had old scuff marks on it.

I enjoyed the Lather bath products (larger than normal hotel sizes) and all the extra pillows provided. Didn't wake up in time for the breakfast, but appreciated the fruit bowl at the check-in desk.

Our first-floor room's "patio" was actually next to the sidewalk of the parking lot, and it faced a major road. Luckily, we didn't hear much noise and the room was generally quiet.

A decent place to stay if you're headed into Marin, but definitely not the romantic retreat it's made out to be on the website.

Thank you for taking the time to submit you review. We appreciate your feedback as it mostly helps us to understand where we need to improve. Sounds like we did not live up to the "wow" factor for you. Hopefully you will consider us in the future should your plans bring you to the beautiful scenic Marin County, where we sit at the edge of the stunning Richardson Bay and estuary. We offer many amenities that have pleased so many guests such as our signature feather-borne bedding package, evening s'mores, welcome elixir, heated pool and spa, complimentary wi-fi, bike rental and parking with Muir Woods at your doorstep. Hope to see you again soon!

We came here for R & R while I was 8 months pregnant. What a beautiful relaxing stay! The beds were so comfortable and the pillows! I wanted to take them home! Pet friendly was a bonus! They had free dvd rentals along with an outside fireplace for smores, which my daughter and I enjoyed very much. Good continental breakfast. Staff was very friendly. We loved our stay here and would come back again!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend at the end of January. It is definitely a boutique type of hotel. The room was clean, updated and quiet. I found the bed comfortable but my husband thought it was a little soft. They had an array of pillows to choose from. The bathroom amenities were very good. The continental breakfast is good. They have a couple kinds of yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, muffins, croissants, hard boiled eggs, etc. There was plenty of room in the breakfast room as well. The staff was friendly and helpful. We found the location to be perfect for our needs. We did make use of the bikes on the path that goes behind the hotel. The bikes could be replaced as there were a number of rusty ones in need of some TLC. There is also a heated pool and whirlpool but we did not use it. We did make use of the small fitness room. It has 2 bikes, a treadmill, and an elliptical. They were all in good working order. The weights started at 10 pounds. I would have liked a couple of 5 pound weights. The only other thing I could fault was that our room had a slight musty smell when we walked in. We remedied that by opening the patio door.
Overall we were very please with our stay at the Larkspur. We will definitely stay there again in the future when we visit Mill Valley.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the estuary. It was very quiet.

“Good value in Mill Valley”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Back in the Bay area tonight. I definitely wasn't going to stay at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael - see my previous review. Instead, i rolled the dice and decided to stay at the Larkspur Hotel in Mill Valley.

I was pleasently surprised. It is an obviously older motel/hotel but it has a "boutique" feel to it. The frost desk check check in manager was superb. Very friendly and professional. The hallway carpeting need updating but who really cares, i don't sleep in the hallways - unless i've had too much too drink! The room itself was spacious, clea, cozy and updated. I also liked the free internet and the breakfast. For the price, the Larkspur Hotel represents good value to me.

If Trip Advisor would let me, i would give this a 3.5 rating. Since i can't give "1/2" ratings, i followed my grade 4 teacher's guidance and rounded up to a 4 star. Next time i am in the area, i will check into the Larkspur Hotel.

By the way, take the drive over the mountain to Stinson Beach. Unbelievably beautiful. Also, Frantoio Italian restaurant (next door) is excellent. Good vibe, good grub and good wine.

Room Tip: Stay on the backside with a view of the estuary. Room 242 is nice

Thank you for the very candid review of our hotel. I am always so pleased when I read that our guests have such a pleasant experience and the excellent customer service they receive from our staff. I will share your comments and positive remarks with them. Hmmm, as far as the hallway carpet, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder I suppose! The hallway carpets were completely replaced with the renovation a few years back. Thanks again for the kind remarks.
