“timing is everything”

We were here in September, which meant there weren't a lot of other guests. We did not have any problems with finding a parking space, and only had one night with noisy neighbors. I agree with other reviewers, the parking lot is difficult to manuever through, and schlepping lugguge up the stairs to the room was a real pain. The pool/hot tub were not available. The continental breakfast was a real joke, very few items and very few of the items. Most offensive was that their website chastises other Keystone motels for deceptive advertising (low cost rooms that are never available) and yet the off-season price quoted on the website is not what we were charged. The unfriendly desk clerk's explanation was that "the website is wrong". On the good side, the room was clean and spacious; we really liked the little table by the window, even though the view was of the parking lot.

“Not happy”

From outside the hotel looks nice with balconies.. We were delighted,( but not for long), to get a room on the 3rd floor. Even though there were few guests, they gave us a room to the back of the hotel. Instead of a balcony our window had a parking lot directly in front of it. Yes, on the 3rd floor, hacked out of the side of the mountain. There were no see-through curtains, So it was too dark in the daytime and brightly lit through the gaps of the black-out curtains at night when cars arrived or departed. The service was rather unfriendly and the b'fast consisted of cereal and various breads and rolls. No fruit or juice. We would not stay there again.

As with most properties, the Roosevelt Inn, has different classes of rooms at different price points. This guest was given exactly the room she booked. Had she wanted a balcony she could have booked a balcony room at a slightly higher rate. The fact that she was not given a free upgrade seemed to upset her. Her actions are like a customer who orders a Kia without satellite navagation then complains that the car doesn't have satellite navagation and demands thatt the dealer upgrades her to a car with satellite navagation at the same price because there are unsold, navigation-equipped cars on the lot. As for the continental breakfast, the Roosevelt Inn does not officially offer a continental breakfast and guests should not expect any breakfast whatsoever. Although we may, at our option, offer a continental breakfast, guests should not expect one during the off-season when rates start at $49.95. If a person wants a breakfast with a room he can spend $79.95 a night at one of the chain properties.

“Cozy and Convenient”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Found this hotel through TripAdvisor. Rates were less than the competition all around it. It's an older hotel, but privately owned and operated. Very helpful front desk. The room we had was a "studio" - a king bed and a small table and chairs situated a couple of steps up in a dormer-type window area. The bathroom was clean but did have a slight mildew odor. They are working on some updates - carpeting in stairwells for one. But the best part is the convenience to Mt. Rushmore. The road that leads to it is right in front of the hotel - a 2-mile trip. You don't have to go through the traffic in the "strip" area and it's certainly more convenient than driving all the way back to Rapid City. We did not eat dinner there, but there is a restaurant on-site. The morning breakfast (included) was typical of hotel breakfasts and the coffee was good. Felt more like an Inn than a Hotel.

Room Tip: Went to their website (rosyinn.com) and was able to make reservations.

“Enjoyed our stay!”

We stayed in the loft suite, which consisted of two king sized beds and two twins in the loft. The room was clean and the towels weren't dingy like someone else had mentioned in their review.

The beds were very comfortable (soft not hard like other hotels), slept very well, better then any other hotel beds. The staff was very friendly, and they set out a nice continental breakfast , it filled up our family until well after lunch.

Our room was cleaned with plenty of fresh towels when we arrived back into our room each day. The helicopter business next door was not an issue because it appears to be permanently closed for business.

We had a great 5 nights at the Roosevelt Inn, and will definitely stay again when we are again in the Keystone area. Thanks for the hospitality!
