“cosy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

We spent 4 nights here during the tall ships race in July 2011.
The rooms were quite comfortable with a good ensuite,as it is a Hotel it can be very busy at weekends.
The main problem we encounted was that due to the fact meals are available all day, when you came to order your evening meal a lot of items were no longer available, although it was one of there busiest times of the year, perhaps they could have asked you at breakfast what you would like for the evening meal.
The position is excellent and within walking distance to shops.
Mal & Celia Collins,Victoria, Australia

Room Tip: Try to get a front room as these have lovely views

Mal & Celia, thank you for taking the time to post on Trip Advisor regarding your stay at the Spinnaker. I hope overall you had a pleasant stay and enjoyed your visit to Scotland. The Tall Ships event in general was successful and certainly increased the number of people visiting the area. I think a lot of the other local hotels may have increased their room tariffs substantially during this event. The Spinnaker didn't. If there are any specific things over and above what you've already mentioned that you think could be improved I would be gratefully to hear them.
Thank you. Stewart.

“Perfect for me”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

Stayed here for one night in May 2011 while on business the next day on the other side of the firth. Room was spotless and of a decent enough size. Bathroom was vey nice.

I arrived quite late in the evening to find the pub pleasantly full, but I was able to get attention, get my keys and get straight up to my room. Before I came down again and had a nice couple of pints in the pub. On returning to the room I helped myself to one of the books on the landing to borrow and read while I relaxed.

I was a little too early leaving to get breakfast, so I couldn't judge that. Location was perfect for my needs, though. I'd appily stay here again if ever I'm in Gourock.

“It was ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

The room was good and we slept well, you have to remember it's a pub so people will be coming and going especially on a Friday and Saturday night and it's always packed. Breakfasts were fine but kippers were never available although listed on the menu. There was one girl dealing with virtually everything and was too busy to be really friendly but she was pleasant enough if you made the effort. If you wanted sauce, bread, salt though you'd have to go looking round the pub yourself or head into the kitchen!

We apologise your experience was not 100% enjoyable. The particular weekend you stayed was very busy, but that is no excuse for customers not receiving good quality service. We were understaffed and this has been reviewed and rectified. We can only apologise further for your preferred breakfast choice not being available throughout your stay. We do genuinely provide what is on the menu and try to keep sufficient stock levels. Thank you for taking the time to review the Spinnaker and your constructive criticism is appreciated. If you have any other concerns please feel free to contact us by email: enquiries@spinnakerhotel.co.uk.

“Excellent location. Very poor quality of food”

I have visited the spinnaker a few times the location is incredible enjoying beutiful views over the clyde. I cannot describe in words how nice it is to go and have a few drinks at this hotel on a nice night. Its just a Shame the quality of food is ridiculous and over priced if the spinnaker would make quality home made non frozen food it would be the icing on the cake. Until then the price of food needs to be dropped. Whenever I get the bill for having a meal in the hotel I'm in shocked there is no quality at top quality prices. Please have a look at this issue to make the spinnaker have that all round appeal it deserves.

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

We agree with previous reviews, what a little gem. The views over the Clyde from our room, room 6, were spectacular. We stayed for 3 nights over Easter and booked a double and a single room overlooking the water. Breakfast was lovely, all freshly produced and plentiful.
We did not eat here but the food being served in the bar looked wonderful. The owner and staff could not have been more helpful. We would certainly stay again when visiting our relatives in Gourock.
If I had one criticism is that it would have been nice to have a couple of comfortable chairs to sit in rather than the dining chairs that were in our room in the bay window. Just to sit comfortable sipping a local beer and taking in the scenery would have been the icing on the cake!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the water.
