My husband, I and a friend visiting us from the East Coast stayed in the Mountain Home Log Cabin for two nights in July. The immaculate, spacious cabin stands in deep woods, less than 3 minutes by car from the Mount Rainier National Forest. The cabin can easily lodge a small group with its queen bed, full bed and fold-out couch. The queen bed is in an enclosed bedroom on the second floor; the full bed is in the loft, just outside the door to the bedroom; and the couch is in the living room on the first floor. A spiral staircase connects the ground floor with the loft and a few additional steps are between the loft and the bedroom door. One needs to be careful ascending and descending the stairs at night to use the bathroom, which is located on the first floor, and contains a tub with shower.
The furniture is rustic and in excellent condition; the beds are comfortable, with nice linens; and there is good lighting throughout the cabin. The kitchen proved to be perfectly equipped for preparing meals, which we did. All the appliances worked well and there are plenty of utensils, dishware, pots and pans, etc. Even a coffee grinder and coffee beans are provided.
A cozy dining nook off the kitchen was a great place to eat breakfast and dinner, though there is also a dining table available in the living area. We brought DVDs with us and enjoyed watching films on the DVD player one night. It was a bit too warm to use the huge fireplace, but it added considerably to the cabin's wonderful ambiance and decor.
We peeped into the hot tub on the back deck (clean and extremely inviting) but never got around to using it. The main road, hidden by the forest, runs at the bottom of a high hill below the cabin. I only heard a couple of cars early one morning when I opened the window.
The cabins' owners responded to all my email inquiries quickly and completely. They even helped me to plan a routing that included Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier.
If you want to stay near Mount Rainier, I give Mountain Home Log Cabin my highest recommendation. It is one classy cabin.
