Harry and Michelle were very nice hosts and provided a very homey, comfortable environment for my girlfriend and I. We checked in early (around 4pm), so Harry had time to give us a little tour of the yard, the hot tub, and the room before we paid.
We enjoyed walking around the huge yard and taking advantage of the hot tub that night. We saw that there was a little nature trail that wound around through some of the nearby woods, but we had already hiked our fill for the day, so didn't check it out. It seemed like a basic nature trail; nothing extravagent; just a relaxing walk through the woods. We were surprised that evening with a couple of really yummy brownies as well when we got back from dinner.
Inside the main house, the free wifi was handy for checking the weather and trail maps online, and the den was really cool to look around, with all of the books and old pictures and such. Don't expect much in the way of modern distractions outside of the basic wifi internet service. There's a TV, but there's a picture of someone shooting their TV taped to it (my guess is that's a hint). There are a few games and puzzles and magazines and such, along with the extensive library of nature books.
The room itself was in an external building which was nice enough and clean. The bed was a little soft for my taste, but I'm personally a little bit spoiled in that regard. The only thing I noticed was that there wasn't great insulation between the nearby rooms. I heard a few more loud noises than I would have prefered from my neighbors. That said, it wasn't really bothersome. Just a warning for anyone else who's especially sensitive to such things.
Breakfast was great; a waffle with strawberries and other fruits. No meat, for all of you heavy meat eaters though. Also, it doesn't sound like there's much variation from what I've read in other reviews. That's just fine by me, but fair warning if you're going to be there over multiple days and a big fan of eggs and sausage.
Obviously, this is not a hotel; this is a home, to which we were welcome to join for a day and a night. If you're looking for a completely isolated experience, you're probably better finding a hotel.
