We had a lovely week's stay at the captains house that I booked for all the family, primarily to take mom away as she cannot travel abroad any more. An 80 year old down to a 2 year old and everything in between! it was great! The setting of the house is stunning. Every room is very comfortable and the kitchen has every untensil you could think of! Extremely well equipped. Beach towels, beachmats, iron, hairdryer, all you have to bring is your shorts, or raincoat depending on how lucky you are with the weather!
Cromer itself - the coast line is stunning with great walks in every direction, along the coast or inland. The night life was a bit mixed. You have to get into the restaurant by 8.45 in most restaurants to have any chance of a nice meal, 5 minutes late, as my daughter and her husband found out at La Griglias and you are turned away. We found the service in the Red Lion and the theatre bar quite poor. We also struggled to find a bar that opened beyond 11pm on the weeknights and was told that everyone just gears up for the carnival week, so that was a little disappointing. Nevertheless we could make our own entertainment when needed and enjoyed cooking our evening meals at the captain's house overlooking the sea, There are some nice restaurants around. We had a very nice meal at the Dales in Upper Sherringham, however, taxis wasnt easy to get either and at one point we thought we might have to walk home despite it only being 11pm! Nevertheless, I would go back to the Captains House any day of the year.
