“A wonderfull way to visit Cromer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

I am not sure there is anymore that can be added to the fantastic reviews below mine but I felt I had to add my two pennies worth.
I stayed at The Captains House for a long weekend (Thursday to Sunday) with my wife and three daughters aged 8, 6 and 2 years old. The 8 and 6 year old had great fun exploring the many rooms and bedrooms that the house has to offer before choosing the one they liked best. Our 2 year old enjoyed stroking the statue of the dog in the kitchen that we aptley nicknamed "Captains Dog". I would often prentend to bark when she stroked it and that made her jump every time to everyones amusment.
The house is fantastic with great views of the Cromer beach and the sea. The house is excellently situated near the pier/pavilion and the high street and its many shops.
The weather was not the best but the greatest thing about the location of Captain's House was when it was sunny we were on the beach and if it started to rain it took minutes to get back in where we enjoyed a nice warm cup of tea whilst we watched the rain from the comfort of the main sitting room.
On the Friday we vistited the highly regarded Bewilderwood and we were not disapointed.
There is so much to do in Cromer and the surrounding area. Captains House in my opinion is this perfect place to stay and enjoy it all!

“Phenominal Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Captains House is an absolute must for a short stay by the sea in Norfolk. The owner has meticulously prepared this house for guests and has achived that very difficult thing - making people feel completely 'at home', away from home. Both the house and the owner are absolutely charming and I could not have wished for a better 40th birthday party with 10 friends and family all staying at the house. We arranged for a catering company to come into the house and cook for us which made the experience even more enjoyable. I cannot recommend Captain's House highly enough - a wonderful experience!

“A wonderful house in a lovely location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We spent a week at The Captains House as part of my parents' Golden Wedding Celebration. Ages ranged from 17 to 88 and we all had a superb time. The house was built in 1820 for Captain Ellis and has lovely views from the front living room and front bedrooms. It overlooks the sea and The Gangway, with the RNLI Museum and cafe opposite. Early each morning we could watch the fishing boats going out and then returning several hours later, laden with crabs and lobsters. The house is beautifully furnished and well equipped for catering and the accommodation is arranged over 4 floors (we put the fittest in the bedrooms at the top, as the stairs are quite steep!).

When we arrived the Housekeeper, Debbie, had kindly left us fresh flowers, eggs, bread, milk, butter, tea, coffee and other essentials that we would need, which was really useful and most appreciated.

The location of the house is fantastic. You are very near to the shops and the sea and don't really need to go far to have a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday. The promenade can be reached either by steps or a lift. Surfing lessons are available near the pier (again very near) and there are some lovely walks. The beach was recently awarded a Blue Flag. There is a bench right outside the house and we spent many hours sitting on this, watching the world go by and chatting to the very friendly neighbours and passers by.

The house sleeps 14 and although we were a few less than that, at no time did we feel it was overcrowded.

I would recommend the boat trip to Blakeney point from Morston Quay (National Trust) to see the seals, oystercatchers and terns and a trip to Sheringham and the Runtons. There's lots more - but we just didn't have time. I would throughly recommend a stay here.
All in all it was a wonderful holiday, which everyone enjoyed. Thank you Sean.

“marvellous location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

This is a beautiful house in a stunning location. We were a group of 14 (3 generations of family) and everyone loved the house. With only 2 parking spots and 7 cars it was a bit of a shuffle but there is other parking nearby if you get in quickly! The parking and the small courtyard garden were the only drawbacks but a small sacrifice for such a beautiful place. We would return but it is now a 'no pet' booking and we have a dog.

“Outstanding Accomodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

We spent a week here with family including two young children, we choose the house beause of its location mainly near the beach and town, but were impressed by the description of the house as well. We were not disappointed, the house was spotless despite having pale carpets and sofa's. There was every appliance you could wish for and more. The rooms and beds were very comfortable. The children were very happy with the basement which had a large flat screen tv with sky HD which was a perfect spot fot the wii and playstation for those who were early risers! There was plenty of room for the 11 of us to spread out and not feel on top of each other. An especially nice touch was the bread, butter, eggs, tea, coffee, sugar and milk left for us and also a large bowl of fruit and 2 vases of fresh flowers. I would recommend this house to anyone who wanted to spend time in a large group
