“Christmas Party”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Having had my office Christmas Party at the Holiday Inn, Aylesbury, and had a great time, I was looking forward to my fiancee's Christmas Party at the Holiday Inn, Sandy. It was a bit of a culture shock. The Aylesbury Holiday Inn is beautiful, with a swimming pool and gym and my office party was all inclusive, with unlimited drinks until midnight. My fiancee's party was in the Banqueting suite in Sandy - a separate function suite with a paying bar.

On arrival, we walked into the bar area, which was mobbed, with a 3 deep row of people all trying to get drinks. To be fair, we did get served fairly quickly.

Having adjusted for the difference in settings, the party went really well. The food was very good - better than Aylesbury (sorry Aylesbury!), and although 3 of us didn't have any roast potatoes or veg, the waitress quickly managed to to rustle some extra ones up. I did notice that the bar ran out of draught lager at about 11ish and the house wine wan't the cheapest at £14.95 a bottle.

However, all in all, a reasonable venue.

“Bring ear and nose plugs !”

Stayed for 4 nights with work. Appeared clean at first. First noticed stale smell going up the stairs, room smelled of sweaty feet ! Horrendously noisy as only 15 feet from A1 which makes the room vibrate with heavy trucks. Ridiculous wait for service at breakfast and / or dinner / bar as normally only one maybe two staff between reception, bar and restaurant. Food very average considering high prices - particular favourite was the breakfast coffee cafetiere full of instant coffee !!

Would not recommend, having looked into it better quality available nearby for same price.

“Dated hotel but comfortable enough”

Stayed at Holiday Inn Garden Court A1 Sandy-Bedford for one night prior to an early morning flight from Stansted Airport.

We were warmly greeted at reception and we were in our room within minutes. The room was dated but spacious and well equipped including TV with a handful of channels, tea and coffee facilities, an incredibly comfortable bed and a miniature sofa bed that would not look out of place in a Doll's House.

The bathroom was large, a few toiletries provided however the shower did not have much power. We did not stay long enough at the hotel to use the restaurant.

For the price paid the hotel was fine and even though the rooms were extremely dated the bed was comfortable and there were good facilities included. Would stay again if in the area again.

“Tired and exhausted, Corporate Identity missing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We have been using Holiday Inn for some time, and the Bedrooms, albeit clean, were outdated to the extent the 'Corporate Blue' used in other facilities as far back as 2000, were not in evidence here. The rooms were tired, old, bed was soft and old, the furniture was old stained and should really be in a skip.

The duty manager was question and was very helpful, especially as far as the recommendation for a great Indian restaurant, however this lady was on her own, or seemed to be a lot of the time, trying to deal with front desk and bar at the same time.

We decided not to have breakfast as you were shuffled to a function room outside of the hotel

Tired and in serious need of update

In the recent months I have now stayed at a number of holiday Inn's and beginning to become concerned that the Customer is having to make do with old and tired properties!!

Dear Guest,

I would like to apologise that your stay at the Holiday Inn Garden Court Sandy fell below your expectations. As a Garden Court, our corporate identity is separate from that of the newly rebranded Holiday Inns, however, we do price ourselves to reflect this.
Thank you for your positive comments regarding the Duty Manager and her helpfulness. We will certainly take on board your constructive comments regarding the hotel.

Kind Regards,
