10 Oct 2009 | Trip type: Couples

Arrived 2nd october, check in was quick and easy.

Room was in the main hotel block, with a view of the back of the hotel and car park. Opposite our room, and still within the hotel grounds is a detached property which I think is lived in by the hotel manager, and he has a dog.............. Now, if you like the sound of a barking dog on holiday - please insist you have a room on this side of the hotel, as throughout the night / early morning you cannot fail to hear the damn thing barking !!

I went to reception and asked to be moved, they said they would shut the dog up, i suggested shooting the damn thing after almost a week of barking - but they failed to keep it quiet ! So needless to say, not much sleep and not the best way to relax on a holiday.

My second issue was the air con - our room had two air con units, that blew air out a pathetic force, if i could channel the air into a balloon it would still be blowing the thing up. It was not cold, in fact it was cooler on the balcony, but then we get bugs in the room, and can hear the beloved doggy even better .....

Went to complain about aircon, said thats about as good as it gets and nothing they can do ! Then a few days later they said the aircon was faulty and being fixed the day after, the day after, still as good as day one !

Ok, so they were the bad points, if your not put off, and still want to go you will have a nice time, the location is great, the food was ok (very european). Interestingly you can always spot us brits, as the queue for chips was always a lengthy and somewhat entertaining one.... :-)

The beach was ok, and the entertainment in the evening was somewhat average, actually i think average is a little too generous !

Finally, if you go, dont buy from the shop in the grounds - go to the shop just outside the grounds as it's heaps cheaper ! (out the bottom exit - opposite beach turn left and walk to promenade, shop is on the left)

Would go to Marmaris again, but would not be staying at this hotel, as they were very inifficent in sorting our two problems out - and who in their right mind has a dog in the grounds of the hotel ???? :-)

Enjoy !

5 Oct 2009 | Trip type: Family

Visited late August with my husband and 14 year old daughter. Arrived quite late in the evening and were too late to have anything to eat when we arrived, so rather looked forward to breakfast in the morning. Room was ok large enough but the view from the balcony was lots of dustbins. Asked to be moved and was given a room with a much better view the next afternoon. Plenty of room for the three of us in a family room as it was like two double rooms with two bathrooms.
Breakfast ...... completely inedible, absolutely revolting even my husband who eats ANYTHING and rather likes the continental ham/cheese selections was unable to muster the courage to try this lot!!! We were told by other guests that the made to order omlettes were nice but you had to queue up so we just didnt bother with breakfast again.
The buffet was not much improved for lunches or dinners ( there was liver and onions 2 nights running which is not everyones cup of tea ! Not mine anyway and the alternatives were just the same old stuff churned out every day. The food at the a la carte restaurants, we had 3 included was a really welcome change. It was lovely to be waited on at the table and the quality of food was good.
Drinks.... watery, tasteless we went out to a bar a couple of times at night just to get a decent drink. Gin and tonic ( they had run out of tonic until about night 5 of stay then finally got one it tasted like gin and soda ) The wine was awful, soft drinks were okish. Cocktails were at an extra charge and really not worth it they were pretty bad too.
Beach....was lovely, although pebbly it was a lovely peaceful setting and a true 5* hotel with waiter service and lovely ice cold drinks would have been heaven in these surroundings. A nice jetty to sunbathe on when the sun leaves the beach at about 4.30.
Didnt spend much time round the pool so cant comment. My daughter made some friends and was able to hang about the pool/games room/disco quite safely we felt so nice for teens. All in all a nice setting but dreadful food/drinks.

SUNNY ENGLAND!!
1 Oct 2009 | Trip type: Couples

You will enjoy your stay at this hotel, but there were alot of niggly faults that would make me think twice about returning, i realise i am only highlighting the negatives i.e Not enough cups, knives, forks(got a bit sick of eating my meals with dessert cutlery), different size glasses for same drinks at bar, food repeated about 4 times per week,no waiter service in foyer or bar, we arrived at 7.00am and there was no one available to show us to our room - so not 5 star

Please don't let this put you off this is a lovely hotel built very sympathetically to allow the best to be made of the trees and surrounding area etc.I am trying to be honest and objective .
The hotel was very nice , bedrooms were ok large and cleaned daily nice touches eg folding towels etc however some of the beds were poor quality . The buffet restraurant was certainly not the best and food was 3 stars at best and it could be a hit or a miss regarding choice. Thought dinner finished too early at 9.30pm .Lots of salad , olives ,bread freshly cooked items did not last till the end of the allocated time for dinner and waiters were extremely quick in taking away food from the buffet as it approached 9.30 therefore peoples choices were curtailed greatly if they waited until 9.00pm to go for dinner! (same at luch and breakfast) . They were very happy to tell you that things had run out eg butter , beer, fanta all in one day !
Only allowed 1 visit to Speciality restraurants in a 10 day stay , some of the travel comanys were allowed 1x of each per week. This needs to be sorted .
Bar staff not especially keen to serve customers(pool bar particularly ) and certainly could not be bothered to make cocktails if asked and sometimes lied and said they were an extra charge . They would also just walk away to avoid serving people . Could only tolerate the local drink . Panorama bar was lovely, very atomospheric.

If they want to keep the star rating they certainly need to look very objectively at the overall standard of the hotel because I may not be a hotel inspector but suspect she would have had a field day listing things that just were not up to standard .

Having said that met some really nice people and enjoyed ourselves . First time in Turkey and it didn't put me off .

On our first day at the Turban Palace we had £35.00 of suntan lotions stolen from our room this happend whilst we were having our evening meal, we immediately spoke to guest relations/reception staff who sent hotel security to check our room the items were not found and they informed us that it was the cleaners responsibility also should we continue to complain she would then be dismissed from her job. I assumed in the way this was said we were to feel sorry for the person loosing their job and not continue with the complaint this was really annoying as we could have had all our valuable items stolen if we had not hired a room safe which was 35tl for 1 week although we have not been charged for a safe at previous 5* hotels. Our Thomas Cook rep Jo was not interested in what had happened to us she just handed me a incident form said she was late for her next appointment then she was gone. We told many people at the Turban Palace what had happened to us and urged them to be careful with there valuable items, two people we spoke to had the locks broken off suite cases in their apartments with no sign of visible break in . We believe that the hotel know of many incidents of theft occurring and I do not believe anybody is dismissed as the cleaner was still working at the hotel when we were leaving, please take a look at a earlier Trip advisor report from neliz who also had valuables stolen at this hotel. Our incident however small could have been much worse and I am really sorry for previous guests who have had items stolen from them at this hotel. We will not be returning to the Turban Palace in the future.
