Just returned from a week at the Marmaris Park hotel; leaving the hotel on what was actually the last day of the season for the hotel. This meant that over the last few days the hotel has been very quiet - only 6 guests left on the final night! - which was fine by me but worth bearing in mind if you're looking for a more lively holiday. Until early October the hotel offers an entertainment programme and 2 ala carte restaurants, however neither of these was operating due to the low occupancy. Nonetheless there was still a huge amount of choice at all meals and the staff were excellent; very friendly and attentive.
The hotel is located between ichmeler and marmaris and both resorts can be reached within minutes by 'dolmus' bus or watertaxi. The resorts in general offered plenty of activities and given that the season was coming to an end we managed to go on some trips at bargain prices - boat trips and jeep safaris were less than £8 per head, including lunch! We also had a traditional Turkish bath arranged through one of the local tour offices for just £5 each - a great experience for all visitors as long as you don't mind getting wet. Both resorts offer plentiful shopping and weekly markets where you can test both your patience and your haggling skills; make sure you leave space for plenty of purchases in your luggage as the check in staff at Dalaman airport were very strict regarding weight limits for hold luggage so at £8 per excess kilo your 'genuine fakes' may turn out to be somewhat more expensive than you initially anticipated....
We stayed in a room in the main building which was big and roomy; the bathroom was relatively basic but the shower (no bath) was always hot and powerful. These rooms would be quite noisy in the summer as they are located directly above the entertainment area, but were perfect given how quiet it was.
The food is varied; don't come expecting a typical 'full English' but there is always plenty of choice of both hot and cold options at every meal. Breakfasts included eggs, meats, pancakes, toasted sandwiches, cereals, toast and the all important baked beans. Lunch and dinner always included soups and salads as well as hot choices and a vast array of desserts. A lot of the food was quite heavily seasoned which i enjoyed, however I can appreciate that this may not be to everyone's tastes.
Alcoholic and soft drinks, including tea and coffee, are available all day long from several bars. The alcoholic drinks are of the 'local' variety but generally very drinkable, especially bearing in mind the excellent value of the hotel.
The hotel does not have a beach but has a spacious sun deck over the sea, which was perfect for swimming in. The outdoor pool was a bit too cold to use at this time of year; there is also an indoor pool, sauna and steam room if you fancy a brief escape from the sun.
Overall I had an excellent week at Marmaris Park; the hotel offers a very good value stay and I couldn't fault the service offered by the staff. The hotel is undergoing some renovations and extension over the winter and I would certainly consider visiting again, perhaps slightly earlier in the season next time so that I could appreciate the full compliment of activities and services on offer
Room Tip: Bungalow rooms are quieter due to being further from the entertainment area but may entail a longer...
