“No complaints! Sun, sea, beach, pleasant hotel”

Only just realised I'd been remiss in reviewing this hotel - which is a shame because at the time I was determined to leap to their defense, guess I must've returned too relaxed to think about such things (which is a great reflection on the holiday)!

The hotel was great. The food was great. The staff were great. The cocktails were great. The beer was great. I too was concerned at what we would find after reading some reviews, but even with a critical eye, I can't see what other reviewers thought were terrible problems.

For the price, the hotel was amazing, well designed, built and maintained, cleaned everyday and nicely laid out. The food was lovely, we always had plenty to choose from, tasty fresh fish, endless delicious fruit, salad and other lovely things plus delicious freshly made omlettes and fried eggs for breakfast. There was always an offer of chips, nuggets, burgers and the like for those who didn't want unprocessed foods.

We thought the bar was perfectly adequate, Effes was the perfect compliment to a sunny day and their cocktails were varied and delicious. The bar area was also lovely, with a good view of the sea and an pleasant indoor area. We caught the entertainment on a few nights, particularly impressive were a couple who played guitar and sang in 4 languages! Some of the other nights (e.g. Mr Munamar Beach) were not to our liking, but we could see many guests really enjoying themselves!

The staff that we dealt with were exceptionally pleasant, throughout the hotel, we did not have a single complaint. Not one. I can't even think of a little one. Not even a surly good morning, nothing. We even had someone come to our room and fix something we hadn't noticed was broken! A big thanks to everyone there!

We had a spa morning which was superb too, would definitely recommend their services (note, to be paid in cash, not added to room bill), it was a real delight and contributed greatly to our relaxed time.

Brits were not the biggest contingent in the hotel and to be fair, the ones we saw were generally complaining, I don't know what about, one couple I over heard (ok, I eavesdropped) were complaining that "it's not a 5 star", which struck me as being odd as REAL 5 stars don't do full week AI for £500 so I'm not sure why they expected that. If you want to share a hotel with only other Brits and eat British food, then this probably is not the place for you (Is Britain the place?). There are a host of British pubs/restaurants around and about that would supply Pie&Chips for £5 & full english breakfasts if you can't survive a week without those things, we didn't try them so can't comment on quality but they were always full of happy looking people.

In general, the holiday was exactly what we needed (laid back, sunny, relaxing) and a good deal better than we expected from the reviews on here.

“A fair review of the Munamar by a well travelled ex holiday Rep!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I have passed this hotel many times when I've stayed in Icmeler, twice to the Gol Mar, Blue Rainbow and Mersoy and always envied the guests staying there.
So when I booked this hotel for half term Oct 11, I was quite disturbed to read the comments on this site.
HOWEVER, we had a fantastic time in a fantastic hotel!

What a load of guff, cold food.....there was a microwave.....very simple to use and usually the food was cold because it had been out for a while as meal times were relaxed so there was no rush to get in, eat it and get out.
The food was varied and from the internal servery there was a wide selection but if that didn't suit, there was an outside Chef who prepared food constantly.
That was where most of the kids went as they had burgers, hot dogs, chips etc

Now then the deserts.......well......we all ut weight on with the deserts as there was a selection of "afternoon tea" size cakes so the temptation to try the lot each night was our downfall.
We usually followed most meals with a coffee or hot chocolate from the machine outside.

The room we had was brilliant. Clean, spacious, modern and everything I expected and more with the view. I have the view still to this day as my screen saver on my mobile!

The staff were lovely but again, I was really surprised to read other guests calling them names.....behaviour breeds behaviour doen't it?
If you go to any hotel and click your fingers or speak to the turkish staff rudely.....expect the same back because after all.......manners cost nothing.

Over all the Munamar is NOT a Thompson platinum but it IS one the nicest hotels in Icmeler to stay at.
If you are travelling to Turkey for the first time....IT IS NOT SPAIN OR PORTUGAL so please rate Turkey as Turkey.
Thompson have not done this hotel any favours at all as guests who have used other Platinum hotels expect the same standards but this hotel is in Turkey and is NOT a Platinum hotel so most of the moaners are disgruntled Thompson guests who should have moaned at Thompson not took it out on Hotel staff and vented their anger on Trip Advisor.

I can not wait to go back here and after staying in 3 other Icmeler properties I can honestly say this is the best one.

Well done the Munamar, your staff were lovely and the hotel was brilliant.

Room Tip: High floor and DEFINATELY pay for a seaview

“Great Hotel and Staff”

Having just come back from the Munamar Beach Hotel,i would just like to say thank you to all the Staff for making it a very nice Holiday. We booked with Easyjet and after looking at the reviews did not know what to expect. But what we got was a far better holiday for our money,Flights were on time(both ways) when we go with Thomson they always have a excuse why they are late. On arrival we were told that we had sea view rooms 305/307 which were beautiful /cleaned every day, i did request exrra pillows and got them straight away. The food experience could be a bit better but you could always get something you liked. The staff were very attentive and could not do to much for you,the local drinks at the all inclusive bar were fine although limited.,we went out a few times just for the change and had a good meal at a very good price 14oz fittet steak meal, with starters, sweets coffees, only came in at 21 TL thats about £8 at local rates we were getting 2.88 tl to the pound in the UK we got 2.48 so change your money over there . We took a boat trip to Marmaris which lasts about 30 mins that costs 10tl each way or you could go on the Dolmus for 2.5tl each way they went every 15 mins from fight outside the hotell. All in all i think probably Thomson taking over the Hotel next year might ruin it a bit, because half of going on a holiday abroad is to have a taste of the local food, were as you might end up with fish and chips and Bingo every night, but for this year we had a great time and would recommend to anyone. There was one thing though we did miss the bad weather by one day we had sunny days 24degrees--28 degrees when we had to come home on the 24 th October

Room Tip: Odd number rooms 300-400 are Sea view rooms Even number rooms overlook the pool and rhe Residence...

“Cold food”

We had noisy neighbours in our room with an adjoining door, but the hotel moved us to a quieter room with no problems.
The food left a lot to be desired. Most of the time it was cold and they do not cater for british tastes. Many times I did not eat at the hotel when the food was cold, just as well as a few people were ill with Delhi belly.
The evening entertainment was poor (when they had any on).
We had torrential rain for 6 days out of 14, obviously not the hotel's fault but they made no effort at entertaining the hotel bound guests.
The rooms are very nice and the maid service is excellent.
The reception staff were very helpful.

Room Tip: First floor above the restaraunt are the quietest. If your room has an adjoining door - reject it an...

“Fab holiday, Fab hotel! (Shame about the weather!!)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

My husband and I are in our early 30's and have just got back from a wonderful holiday in Icemeler at the Munamar Beach Hotel, though we hit unlucky with the weather. I was unsure of what to expect after reading some of the reviews on here but I don’t know what all the fuss is about! Some of the reviews seem very unfair and I think people expectations are far too high, especially considering the price of this 4/5* hotel! There weren’t many Russians when we were there and those that we saw weren’t rude.. From 2012 the hotel will be UK, Thomson only with no children and the hotel is apparently undergoing “another” renovation and there will be staff training. I just hope the prices don't shoot up!

Service

On arrival the reception was very friendly and a porter took our bags to our room and showed us how to work the air conditioning and lights. In general the staff were lovely, though spoke little English. The maid service was very good with the towels changed every day and the mini bar re-stocked with soft drinks and water even though it was advertised as only stocked on arrival! The mini bar wasn’t cold, but the next day I reported it to reception and someone came up and fixed it (well I say fixed – he took the fridge out of the wooden unit it was in and it was cold after that, so maybe it was overheating in the unit!) The restaurant and bar staff were very friendly, particularly the bar staff, you could have a laugh with them.

Room

The room was gorgeous, very modern, carpeted with flat screen TV & tea/coffee making facilities. The TV had a very poor signal and limited English speaking channels but if you get good weather then it won’t matter. The bathroom was also very chic and very clean, shower was powerful, though on a morning there seemed to be lack of hot water if you get up late! The air conditioning was perhaps a little noisey but we didn't need to use it much with it being October.

Food

The food, though slated on here, really wasn’t that bad. Yes it was a bit repetitive and the “hot” food that was indoors (not the outdoors section) was luke warm as there were no heat lamps. At the end of the day you’re in Turkey not Britain so you’re not gonna get fish and chips or steak! If you don’t like it, go out to eat! The hotel we thought was quite cheap so we would’ve eaten out without any fuss if we didn’t like the food. We did eat out twice at Coco Beach along the sea front, just for a change of scenery and it was only £45 for a 3 course meal for 2 including water, beer & a nice bottle of wine. You could eat elsewhere for a lot less, but this was a very nice restaurant. We went to the A la Carte restaurant at the hotel once which was nice, but was Sea Food with very little menu choice, but it was lovely all the same.

Entertainment

The entertainment wasn’t great – a Turkish night, Bingo Night and a Quiz night, but that didn’t bother us. The stage area was nice and brightly decorated and the seating area at Carmelos Bar was large and comfy.

Spa

We both used the Sauna and paid extra for a Turkish bath with scrub and foam performed by 2 Thai girls on the first day. It was very nice and prepared our skin for the holiday. We would recommend it.

Pool

The pool area and bar were nice though we only went in the pool once because of the weather. It’s a shame the “hot tub” isn’t hot as it would’ve been great on the cloudy/rainy days that we had!

Beach

The beach is very clean and the sun loungers are not to close together. The sea is nice with lots of fish when it’s cooler (the type that you pay for when you have a fish pedicure in the UK!) It’s a shame the beach is shingle and was a bit uncomfortable on your feet but it was fine. There was watersports available but we didn’t try any.

Out and About

We wanted to go on a few trips but due to the weather we just went on one boat trip to the Dalyan Mud Baths & Turtle Beach which was good. Whatever you do, don’t buy your tickets from your tour operator as they rip you off. We only paid £11 each for our boat trip.

We went to the Icemeler Market which is on Wednesdays, and you need to be prepared to barter! You get a lot of hassle to buy things which I didn’t like and was surprised to find the prices of the clothing was very similar to the shops which you can also barter in so I'd prefer the shops over the market!

All in all we had a fab holiday and will definitely go back to Icemeler and also the Munamar Beach Hotel. Hopefully next time there may be small improvements with the food and the entertainment, the only things that stopped me giving it 5 stars :)

Room Tip: 4th Floor has great views!
