Very much a Turkish resort hotel about 7 miles outside the town of Afyon, the Allstar Ikbal is a comfortable place to break your journey (e.g. between Bursa and Antalya) and enjoy the excellent thermal facilities, especially the hot spa pool.
The food was a little disappointing - rather poor choice at the buffet and not adequately replenished - but the staff were helpful and friendly and we felt that we got good value.
The town of Afyon is certainly worth visiting, though it is not at all easy to explore. The old town is a maze of streets at the foot of a steep hill. There are many beautiful mosques and some fascinating small Ottoman houses, but none of our guidebooks had a map and neither did the Tourist Office so we had to take pot luck which was quite exhausting in the August heat.
Eating out in Afyon might be a problem. We did manage to find one bar selling beer which was very welcome after our attempts at exploring the old town.
