“Complete disaster, thinking Saga cared for their more elderly guests”

Arrived at Port Denia Hotel on Sat.12Nov,2011 and by Monday was violently sick, spent two days in bed, managed to be up one day, sickness and diahorrea for two more days, no help from Saga Rep. many people all ill, but they had been telephoned and warned of the situation, we were not and had travelled for two days from Scotland to get there. Then my husband also took the diahorrea. A complete disaster!! First time with Saga and considering the price they charged for two weeks really it was an absolute disgrace. A" SAGA "alright, never again.
Lastly, the food was either undercooked, or overcooked, not very inviting to look at.

“A "Good" rating for Hotel Port Denia”

I returned this morning from a week here, where my last visit was in January, 2000. Some good changes were obvious in its fabric and furnishings, and in the constancy in the warmth and cordiality of the staff in the areas of catering, bar service, housekeeping and reception. The food is above average for a facility bulk cooking and serving 100-150 diners at each buffet meal.
Repairs to the TV, and to the heating system were accomplished immediately and competently. It is located about 3/4 mile away from the centre of town -- to where there is good bus service -- but there is a lovely close-by modern boat marina to meander through, near a lengthy waterfront walkway looking out to sea, with many adjacent restaurants .

Our first SAGA holiday. Lovely hotel opposite the new Marina with esplanade walks and restaurants. Indoor heated pool in conservatory as well as beautiful outdoor pool. It was warm enough to sunbathe. Service excellent. Food varied and good. Inclusive excursions and entertainment in two bars every evening. Really enjoyed ourselves. Oceans of hot showers and clean towels in bathroom. Quiet on 4th floor. Single beds a little firm for me, but after free drinks and cocktails who cares! An excellent 3 star hotel with homely feel.

Room Tip: Rooms without balcony are larger, but we found our room with balcony and pool view south facing perf...

“Enjoyable stay and value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

After a two-week stay at Hotel Port Denia on a Saga all-inclusive, we came away feeling we’d had an enjoyable holiday. We are at the young end of the increasingly large group of older people able to take holidays in school term time and seek out winter warmth to escape dull and chilly Britain at this time of year. The hotel guests were largely older British and we discovered that many were on return visits to this hotel and one person had been seven times before. There was an easy familiarity with fellow guests and with staff. There were quite a few Spanish visitors and one large group of Chinese, who did their Tai Chi sessions every morning around the pool. When a family with two small boys arrived at the hotel, they looked out of place.
Everything worked well at the hotel and the friendliness of staff in the face of this quite demanding age group was to be admired. The bedrooms were of a good standard and cleaned every day.
The Saga brochure mentioned a gym and that was an attraction to this hotel but it was a small room and the majority of equipment wasn’t working properly. There is a small indoor pool but not large enough to have a proper swim.
The town of Denia added to our overall enjoyment because, although it serves tourists it is a working town. The covered market and the adjacent street market remind us what we are lacking in Britain with an incredible range of food on display. There is a train station serving towns and cities to the south and a bus service north to Valencia – well worth a visit. Close to the market, there is the medieval part of town that is developing into an area for good Spanish restaurants. We had a lovely tapas style lunch at Miguel Juan (established 1929) in Calle Loreto.
I have to say that after the first week we realised the food at the hotel was limited and lacking in variety. We are open and enthusiastic about all types of cuisine but I think the hotel was torn between cooking authentic Spanish food and catering for a largely British clientele, who I suspect, prefer what they know. They ended up delivering neither.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and felt we had value for money.
