This was the wrong place for us to stay in Dec. First the apt was ice cold, and no way to regulate the heat. The beds rock hard, had to turn over ever hour or so because of numb limbs. Can't comment on the food as we did not eat at the restaurants. We had a few drinks at the bar which was enjoyable. The staff were either terrible rude or extremely friendly. The area was pretty much closed up for the season. A few bars and restaurants were open. The few surrounding towns were O.K. to explore but didn't hold our interest. We left two days early and headed back to Barcelona which was Fantastic!

We stayed at the Peñiscola Plaza Hotel for 9 nights. This is a big modern hotel with a high atrium lobby, and it has almost 500 rooms. Our room was quite large, with two double beds. The bathroom was also large, with a separate shower stall, besides having a bathtub. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful and it was located beside the beach, 5 km from the Peñiscola Castle, the principal tourist spot in the town. We were quite satisfied, but the buffet lunch and dinner can be improved.

There is a supermarket called the Intermarche that is less than a kilometer from the hotel. One goes out the back door to the paseo maritimo and walks north, towards Benicarlo. The big supermarket is open everyday (Sundays only in the morning), so one can find what one needs here.

We came to Peniscola having been planning on staying in Terragona and being horrified at the sight of the White Vest Brit Brigade.
We stopped at tourist info on the way out of Terragona and they recommended Peniscola.
On arrival the town is lovely, and I'm sure some of the little hotels by the beach are lovely, although none had availability on the day we arrived.
So we went safe and decided to go for the Plaza.
On arrival the hotel gives an upmarket perception and we decided to upgrade our room to a balcony suite and enjoy out time there. The balcony was one of the few without a jacuzzi, but was still very nice and the suite very spacious.
The hotel was typically busy, slightly crowded and very organised, not our cup of tea, but exactly what you would expect of a hotel of this size.
Food was ok for mass produced servings, and prices reasonable.
Nothing to complain about, and nothing to write home about, good location for the beach, and a short walk up to the main town.

This is an excellent choice for a family holiday of all ages including disabled and elderly.

The staff were so kind and although out of season for childcare, the hotel found one of its own staff/housekeepers to look after our three year old son. They were very vigilant in the light of recent events.

He had great fun in the outdoor (safely enclosed) play area and inside the nursery room.

There is a superb outdoor pool but safely away from children's play area.

There is even a doctor's surgery held at the hotel for minor ailments and a good local hospital - remember to take your Euro Healthcard with you, though.

I enjoyed the superb Minos Spa facilities and had some relaxing treatments.

The beach stretches for miles and is spotlessly clean with some lovely shells and sancastle-making sand.

The castle and ports at both ends of the beach provide plenty of things to do and see including the fishing boats bringing home their catch at 4.30 pm each day.

The whole area is surrounded by lovely countryside and easy dirving until you reach the mountains and walled city of Morella which is well-worth a visit.

A week wasn't long enough to visit all the sites but it was a good start and we would certainly stay again at the Plaza.

The apartments were immaculate and all hotel services were excellent. Our apartment had a safe terrace for children and the scent of the orange blossom groves filled the air night and day. This is why the coast is called Ahazar the orange blossom coast.

No need really for extra photos as the virtual tour is accurate and some really good quality postcards are available

This is a hotel of superb quality in every way - 5* +++++++
