“It was Okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed here Jan 29 to Feb 01 2012.

We were in Barstow to do some Geocaching so we stayed here for 3 nights. It was upon recommendation of other Geocachers we stayed here.
The rooms have been refreshed recently yet in places they show their age.
We also took this because they had a microwave and a small fridge. This made it easy to keep things cold that we would need on the road the following day.

I would suggest though that one doesn't plan on the breakfast served here for the day. There isn't that much. There were 3 of us and we would be lucky if there was 2 items of each.

Now be aware the main line (Train) is across the street and could keep light sleepers up. Trains go by all day and all night about every 15 minutes.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs

“Clean, convenient, one-night stop-over”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

It's slim pickings in Barstow but for this Travelodge is budget friendly and though a little on the worn side, is clean, comfortable, and conveniently located next to a Starbucks and across the street from a McDonald's. There is also a 24 hour mechanic shop within close walking distance so if you need auto work, this is especially well located. There is nothing fancy here but the owners are very accommodating and there is a free continental breakfast. We are 2 women traveling and at first we worried that Barstow would be too rough a town for a stopover but the Travelodge turned out to be a place where weary travelers can catch a few zzzzs. The hotel seemed to be full of others like us, some senior citizens passing through, a few families, your regular group of guests who simply need a place to stop before moving on.

Booked the wife and daughter here. Ended up going to Comfort Suites as the bathroom needed some attention. You can let your imagination run wild.

“Better than I expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Stayed here on Nov. 19, 2011. The beds were soft, as were the pillows. The towels were a bit rough, but okay overall. The room was a good size, with a fridge, old CRT TV, hair dryer, safe, and microwave. The room was clean, the bathroom a bit small, but there is a sink outside, which helps.

As stated by other reviewers, the heating unit was a bit loud, so we did not use it while sleeping. Continental breakfast was just okay, mainly danishes, juice, toast and cereal. There is a Starbucks next door and a McDonalds across the street, as well as a Teriyaki place almost on the same campus. The nearby train tracks were not an issue, even though I am a light sleeper.

Within driving distance is a supermarket and a few gas stations. I felt that the area was safe, especially since I could park my car in front of the door of the hotel room. I could not hear any of my next door neighbors nor anyone upstairs, which is a good thing. Room was also really a smoke-free room.

It is a good stop over hotel and better than I had expected by reading the other reviews.

“Nice enough for overnight stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

On November 19, 2011 My parents and I stayed the night on our way to Arizona from northern California. I had made a reservation online after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and doing my own research of the various Motels/Hotels in the area. The AARP discount of 20% was better than the Military discount. I feel we got the best price here at the Travelodge for a one night stay.

It is older and the rooms are small and worn, but decent. The young couple running it were very nice. But very very hard to understand their English. We had a room with 2 comfortable Queen beds. There was a small refrigerator, small microwave, & hair dryer. The small bathroom had a small tub/shower. The showerhead was low (I am 5'6" and had to bend my knees to fit under it to wet the top of my head) but it worked well.

The plug outlet behind the desk did not work (for my laptop) The wall heater was loud but worked. We did not use it while we slept as it was too loud. Turned it back on in the morning when we awakened. There was a wall safe approx, 18"x18" 4" deep? but it was locked. There were 3 large drawers and 8 hangers. No coffee maker because they have a continental breakfast from 6:30a.m.-9:30a.m. Which is cereal, pastries, bananas, bread (toaster) coffee, OJ & apple juice.

We went across the street at 7p.m. and several of the businesses and places to eat were already closed. As I said, it is older and worn but for a one night stay, for the price I'd stay again.
