We first visited Castell d'Emporda while searching for wedding venues in October of 2010 and fell in love with it immediately. We visited 4 times through 2011 and then finally in October of 2011 for the actual wedding. Every visit was a great experience involving friendly, professional staff, excellent facilities, incredible views and fantastic cuisine. All rooms are clean and we were very happy with them. To differentiate, the Garden rooms are zen-like with great views of the country-side while the castle rooms have a charming, medieval feel. The garden suites are large and have the best views. The Suite Pere Margarit (in the castle) is the largest room with the best amenities where you feel like a king/queen. If you are okay with the price, we definitely recommend the Suite Pere Margarit, although all of the other rooms are a great experience. If I were to avoid any rooms, it would be the garden roms that are near the pool as they are a bit cornered and slightly less private. The other garden rooms have the great views and privacy from the pool.
For our wedding, we rented the entire Castle and filled it with family and friends. I highly recommend this option as other tourists and patrons are not allowed in for the weekend. It also gave people who attended (75 in the castle and 100 at the wedding) and were meeting for the first time a great opportunity to get to know each other. The weather was amazing (October 15th and still amazing), although we heard that the weekend before had very strong winds and some rain. The Castle has a great setup for dinner, even if the weather turns on you, such that everybody is protected but still feels like they are outside. The food and restaurant is well-known in this area of Spain and even if you do not stay in the castle, we recommend reserving a table for dinner. The restaurant management and sommelier know how to ensure a pleasurable experience. The location is well placed for day trips as well (Figueres, Begur, Cadaquez, etc).
One negative in our opinion is that La Bisbal itself is not a nice town. It is not horrible or anything to avoid, but it is not very interesting. Visit the surrounding areas for day trips. Also, contact the castle for transfers from Barcelona and Girona airports. Public Transportation is really inconvenient if you do not rent a car. Of course, car rentals are the best choice.

A very special and original place to enjoy a few days of luxury. The castle is build on a hill, and has been reformed with very good taste. Having breakfast on the terrace with a view over the beautiful surroundings is a real joy. The swimming pool with sun terrace is great, and the best beaches of the Costa Brava are not far away. The food in restaurant was of outstanding quality during my first visit (June 2010), but when we came back a year later I was a bit disappointed.

We got Married Here and hired the whole Hotel out for our guests. We had the best Wedding I wouldn't have changed a thing. I am a regular visitor to the Hotel and I would come back as often as possible in the future. I have made an effort to get to know all the amazing staff they have working at the Castell.
Albert and Margo have done a wonderful job in restoring this amazing Hotel to a quality and style that is so understated with all the little pieces of Art around, I just think it has been so beautifully created to fit the right ambiance of the surrounding area.
I would have to thank everyone that made my Weekend so very special to Me and my New Husband and every single Guest we had said that they have never been to a wedding or Hotel where the Staff went out of their way to help and add to the pleasure of being there.
Also the food as always have been outstanding even for a Wedding the quality was spot on and the service was just top quality.
If you listen to bad reviews regarding service all I would say you get the same reviews on every single Hotel it is such a shame that a little slow service is enough to out shadow the real beauty of such a stunning place with amazing Food that never fails!
If I need to get a drink I will go up to the bar and kindly ask for what I would like.
As for snacks they do have a Tapas menu that you can have around lunch time. Also you really don't have to order the three courses from the Lunch Menu you can have a main or ask if they have another option as I did on quite a few occasions and I always felt I was very well looked after.
Also service round the pool is slow but again I would go up a few stairs and would order and they always offered to bring the order to me by the pool.
I have stayed in every style room and I have to say I love them all Tower Rooms are small but still great for views but then they all have great views.
So please come and stay and get to know everyone that works there you will be amazed how people would bend over backwards to help if you are happy and friendly..
