“lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2008

Spent almost a week at this hotel which I could not fault.
The room was clean and comfortable.
We were on half board basis but expected to eat out most nights as previous experiences of half board in Spain was not good but there was an extensive buffet which included plenty of salads and hot food choices as well. As a vegeatarian I always managed to find something and felt I ate well. We only eat out one night which is a real testament to the quality of the food.
The waiters were also helpful and staff in general were helpful.
We could not have asked for more from this hotel.
In terms of La Herradura the bay is lovely but it is small. It only takes 15 minutes to walk from one side of the bay to the other. There were buses to Nerja and Almunecar and Granada but we like an active holiday in terms of sports etc and have to say there was not enough for us to do in the daytime. There was a sailing/ windsurfing school on the beach which was our main reason for going to La Herradura but the tuition was not great and was a little disappointing.
We really enjoyed the relaxed evenings in various bars the atmosphere was laid back and friendly with no lager louts or karaoke in sight and I have to say I much preferred the Spanish feel to this village as opposed to the more English atmosphere of Nerja.

“a little spanish gem”

This hotel is actually in the little seaside village of Herradura and is literally a 2 minute walk from the sea. Don't be put off if you arrive by car as you are directed around the back of the hotel in a shabby side street opposite a small supermarket. However, when you walk through the door the floors and stairs are grey marble and everything is spotlessly clean. The room was also spotless and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever had on holiday. We stayed on a half-board basis as this is what the website offered but there are plenty of restaurants and bars within a 5 minute walk. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace and was plentiful and varied. Dinner is served in the small restaurant downstairs and whilst the food was very good, there was not much choice - one meat dish, one fish dish, various vegatable dishes and loads of fresh salad.
I really cannot fault this hotel and we will definitely be going back. However, bear in mind that Herradura is not a particularly touristy area and the beach is pebbles rather than sand. If you like the true Spain rather than high rise hotels and 'kiss me quick hats' this is ideal.

“Perfect stay”

We stayed at the hotel in July. And it was lovely. The best of the hotel is the staff, they were so friendly and helpful.
The rooms are very comfortables, clean and not noisy at all, even when the hotel is located in a main street.
The restaurant offer a big variety of meals. Excellent is the best word to calificate it.
Our children enjoyed a lot.
It has no pool, but doesn't matter because the beach is so close to the hotel.
We would like to thank the reception staff, their English is quite good and they are hard workers, specially Esther and Elisa ( thank you girls for your patient!!!)
We probably come back following summer.

“Nice Hotel--But Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2006

The Hotel is very nice--clean, good service, and with a great breakfast which is included in the room price. However, we had some problems with it:

1. Although they have air conditioning, it only works during the summer months. However, La Herradura is warm even during non-summer time. The rooms got really hot, so we opened the sliding doors--for about 30 minutes, when we realized how noisy it was outside. The hotel is located on the main street that leads out of La Herradura, so cars, motorcycles, and people were around there all the time. The noise was so incredible we choose to sleep with the door closed even though we were hot and uncomfortable throughout the night. If you don't get hot easily or if you go when their air conditioner is working, this shouldn't be a problem for you.

2. The walls in the hotel are thin. We could hear people in the rooms next to us and walking in the hall way. Whenever someone knocked on someone else's door, we would think they were knocking on our door. Because of this, it gets really noisy at night.

3. The hotel staff was incredibly nice and helpful--if you speak Spanish. I speak Spanish so they were great, but my husband does not speak Spanish. They could never understand what he said, but rather than letting him know they didn't understand, they would just nod, smile and say "yes" or "of course." Because of that, we almost lost the reserved tickets to the Alhambra (they nodded, smiled and said "of course" when my husband requested a wake up call--which we did not get. When I asked why they had not done the wake-up call, they asked me what a wake-up call was). We finally figured out what was happening and after that, only I talked to them in Spanish and they were great.

Summary: Great price; great breakfast; great service in Spanish. Very noisy.
