“I wouldnt recommend staying here..”

We travelled to this hotel for my brothers wedding at the end of April. The hotel is covered in mirrors, both inside and out. The reception area is quite nice, very modern but also quite small and dark - the reception desk and receptionists are hidden behind plants! Check in was fine, no problems. We had to share an apartment with my brother and nieces, so we had a 3 bed. Apartment is fine, again modern decor etc. HOWEVER, be warned - the oven does not open - they are glued shut - which we discovered our first night there, after we had bought food (which we need to cook in an oven!) for family that were arriving late. Reception told me that all ovens are sealed, and checking with the rest of the wedding party - they all had the same problem. It seems to me that they use sealed ovens as a way of forcing you to eat in their restaurant. What is the point in "self catering" then??? Also, other members of my family had issues with fridges not working. A major problem for us, is that after cleaning up for lunch one day, we obviously missed a crumb, and an hour later, the entire kitchen was covered in ants. I travel to Spain about 3 times a year and I have never ever had this problem before. The place was infested. The food in the hotel is not great, but would do for a bite if you were stuck. The drinks are pricey considering its not exactly Marbella.. The service is slow - but only because for the most part, they have one staff member serving in the restaurant, at the pool and at the cafe and the poor girl does her best. The wedding went ok - but the food was not hot enough, and there were no second helpings... The pool area is beautiful and what probably saves this hotel - but the water in the pool is so cold, nobody could get in!! The parking is 10 euro a day (rip off), on street parking is free, but you could be searching for a while for a spot!! There were loads of people walking around the hotel and in the lifts with dogs of various shapes & sizes... I dont think I'd ever go back..

“Great family option for the costa del sol - if u can find it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2010

This suite hotel is perfect for a family travelling together in spain's costa del sol - we got a 2 bedroom apartment with a huge living room+kitchen+nice balcony and a modern bathroom. If u have 2 kids with u this sort of accomodation is the only option apart from getting 2 adjoining rooms at a hotel. The hotel has a tacky/a la '70's disco style decor to it but it does have a huge garden/pool area with fountains and a game room for the kids. The main problem was finding it as it is not mentioned in any of the yellow signs in town which point out directions to hotels. The street name - avenida del costa del sol - is also not marked anyplace in the street.Nevertheless once you do find it ,the flat is spacious, the buffet breakfast, included in our room rate,is generous, and the service is warm and thorough!.The toen of almunecar is a nice village on the costa del sol, less crowded than nearby Nerja, and with a nice cobblestone old town with shops and endless bars and tapas places.

“They will see us again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2009

Nice hotel, the personel did speak english and french very well, was very kind.
The pool looks nice, but the water is cold. Breakfast was good: continental, english and spanish. Be sure to ask a room on the garden/poolside! The distance from Malaga airport is 70km, it is nice to have a car to get there, but parking is hard. There is a hotelparking under the building, but that's expensive (€8.- a night). The city is a few minutes walking away and the beach about 10 minutes. The old town is nice, there are a few nice spanish restaurants, on the beach you find several restaurants and bars too.
In the surrouding there are several nice villages to visit, Frigiliano for ex.

“Decadent interior and small pool area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

Nice enough flats; very large and the layout was practical. Somewhat decadent though, and in parts a little tired-looking. Staff generally not very friendly. Pool area looks nice from a distance, but is in fact quite small with not enough sunbeds for the number of guests at the hotel. Breakfast buffet was fine with a wide selection, although not much variety during our 8-day stay. The hotel likes to give the impression of being of a really good class and standard, but the staff and interior don't really live up to that.

“Great accommodation and pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

We stayed in July with our 12 year old daughter and 16 year old son. We'd chosen this hotel because you get two large bedrooms, a living room, bathroom and small kitchen in a hotel - so privacy for us parents at night, plenty of space to spread out in, maid service so I didn't have to clean, washing machine so we could keep the number of bags down on Easyjet, fridge for drinks etc, ...
Our daughter was thrilled at the rather weird Aladdin's cave mirrored entrance doors to the hotel, and loved the hotel which is full of mirrors and plants, marble floors, loads of space and whitewashed moorish shapes. She loved the buffet breakfast which was included in the price and as it ends at 10.30am, you don't have to get up early. She spent most of her time in the very lovely pool. It's deep on one side - about 7 ' I think - but about a metre deep in the other half, including under the 'grotto' which keeps shady in the sun. There's also a small shallow pool for little ones. The water feels cold when you stick your toe in but in July with 34 degrees it was gorgeous once in. Might be cold earlier in the year though. Lots of parasols so you can keep in the shade if you want to.
Our urban, well travelled son is harder to impress but enjoyed it. He really liked the relaxed feeling of Almunecar and could have done with a friend in tow really as teenagers welcomed into town's bars and it's all friendly and not at all threatening and we didn't see any silly drinking, just kids hanging out on mopeds and at cafes.
The pool has a bar/snack thing which is efficient but expensive and the food by the pool is pretty useless. You can't take your own stuff down to the pool. The big bar in the evening was almost empty, and was the only disappointing part of the holiday as we'd hoped it would give the kids a chance to make friends. Perhaps the recession is biting.
Staff were efficient, pleasant - not particularly friendly, but not unfriendly. I'm sure if there were any problems, they would respond very quickly.
Almunecar is a nicer town than we'd expected. The side closest to the hotel is the nicest bit - you can wander up into the old town where there's a nice square with restaurants, or down to the beach where the eating was a bit dire. Very close to the hotel, across the road on the way into almunecar is a roast chicken on a spit place which we used a lot, bringing delicious chicken back to our suite to eat on the balcony.
I'd really recommend getting a garden view. We were luckily given one for no extra cost as it was quite quiet when we arrived. But it made such a difference with a lovely view over a huge orchard surrounding the pool and hotel, and out towards the sea (can't see much of it) and then over to the old town piled up on itself to the left, very pretty at night. It might have been a very different experience if we'd been facing the street on the other side.
You can park for free on the street outside the hotel, but spaces are hard to find. If you get stuck, you can park in the hotel for 12 euros a night, but we managed to avoid that.
Great holiday. Perfect for a week with kids. Might get boring for them for longer stay though I could have spent another week just sitting reading on the balcony looking out over everything.
